can you be homophobic and part of the LGBT

the answer is quite simple........ yes you can be homophobic and be part of the LGBT no if and or buts you can ask any one that's in the lgbt community and they can tell you that you can't be part of the community and homophobic ( allies/cis/straights) don't have a say in what is homophobic or what's not if an LGBT person calls an other person the f slur or the slur for lesbians they are homophobic i seen people in the community be homophobic or against trans or other members of the community so just because you are part of it doesn't mean you are any less responsible for the slurs you say and when you get called out on it

Its sad because i actually know quite a few homophobes and other bigots who r lgbt that r in my friend group 💀😭

It's really sad and it's not uncommon at all.

So many LGBT people struggle with internalised homophobia and struggle to accept themselves for who they are, let alone others.

We can look all we like for society as a whole to accept us and treat us the same as everyone else but I'm not sure that can ever happen in the way we want while we're still so divided within our own community.

Same as everyone else; bleed red, need green, **** brown.

You're right, we are the same as everyone else.

But it's still illegal to even be gay - to exist and live as an LGBT person - in around 70-75 countries. In around 10 of them, you could be sentenced to death for participating in private, consensual homosexual activity.

Not to mention that, in many areas of countries where homosexuality IS legal, and even gay marriage is legal, many people aren't/don't feel safe to come out as LGBT, let alone hold their partner's hand in public.

Many countries might accept it, but while there are people in our community who are not safe to live their lives as who they are, we are not accepted as a community.
 
Valid points about the worldwide situation on GLB rights. I didn’t take that into consideration as I meant my comment for the country we’re in so didn’t apply to others- I should’ve specified sorry.

Can I ask if you’re happy with the GLB rights in the UK ?Sure I saw you said you’re from here)! Not disregarding your other statements either because I strongly agree about the death penalty etc it’s barbaric.

That's cool! I just think it's very often easy to forget that while most of us are safe, a huge amount still aren't.

I am actually pretty happy with how we have it in the UK. I certainly haven't faced any really direct homophobia for example, but there are plenty of ways in which many people have a long way to go to actually accepting gay people. (Although mostly those kinds of people are just intolerable knobheads in general anyway)

Having said that, I don't know much about things like paternity leave for gay couples for instance because I haven't been in those situations, but I would imagine that it would be those kinds of areas that would be where there is potentially room for inprovement.
