New side room in Girls Chat

Trolls are nobodies who crave attention. if you don't give them any, most of them wont bother trolling anymore. besides it only takes like 2 seconds to mute any troll if they are bothering you that much.

I have never seen morale in a chat room as low as I have seen recently in girls chat.

My extensive friends list is down 50% on active members. Chat tends to be down about that on regulars too.

The recruiters are having a field day, many are saying they are leaving.

In an attempt to make Girls Chat Great Again and since I am no longer a mod I am trying something out on pretty much a daily basis now that I have been messing with on and off for a while.

When I am on I will be setting up a side room where the protagonists can not interfere in our fun.

A group of us will be trying out a bunch of various games we can play in chat.

The room will be members only (Guest Free) .

Part if the fun is we have a pirate theme as we are the Pirate room of girls chat arrrrrrrr.

Its been fun so far and its amazing how much the room buzzes with only 8 to 15 people in it.

One of the most satisfying thing I have found doing this is the comments some make for example “I feel safe in here” and “this is way more peaceful”

Come join in.

Let the trolling whining and general fun vampires begin.

1st trivia game tonight every one had fun Blues won!!!!

I for one heavily support this idea. Im not sure what basis somebody would have to argue against this, especially since its a feature added by those in charge. Especially for VIP members who have a paid membership.

Im glad you and the others who use this feature are having a nice time. Ive entered a couple times over the last week or so and everyone seems happy in there which is whats most important 🙂

I like this idea. I’d join for the sheer hell of the quiz alone if I had the time some other users have. We’re doing a course at the moment which is trying to encourage more diversity when it comes to language barriers. May be a daft idea but a room for people to exchange the basics of introduction to language- boosts user numbers, improved friendships possibly- increased forums visitors. Clearly that would need to be modded of course. As much as I agree that communication should be in English, exceptions should be considered when it comes to ******** whose primarily language isn’t English but are studying/learning so to speak.

Just my two cents worth. If something like this is in place then scrap this post as I don’t frequent GC so wouldn’t know.

Bilingual mods would improve massively also. Optional, though.

There isnt anything like that in the room. My primary language is English as is all the other moderators aside from Jess, shes German so thats pretty cool. I understand some Spanish, Italian, and Russian, but Im not sure its enough to moderate a side room speaking those languages. There are certainly times I feel like we lose out on a chatter when they have a hard time speaking only English. I think this idea is a good one, just not sure how we would go about setting it up at the present time. But hey, more ideas the better right? 🙂

This was posted in another thread, but it seems like a good time to post it again somewhere not closed people can add to it.
These are not about any people in particular, just common trends and behavior patterns. but there will be people that pop into mind for each point and if that helps you put them into perspective use what helps.

Some important safety tips to remember, Allowed Does not mean welcome, no one is under any requirement to respond to anyone, lots of people come and go under different names, you know what you know and you can help yourself. We cannot always remove people as easily as people think, or as we would like.

There is a few suspicious users around these days, be careful of guest accounts active around the same times as problem users. You can search for a blank name in the search option and arrange by newest or last active. Connect the dots and watch your backs.

People that talk to people that are widely known for been dangerous or problems an despite everything they've done are throwing up massive warning signs, don't ignore them signs. Many of these people have as suspicious a history/googled pics/other red flags of their own. Use their willingness to engage with people with that kind of history as a huge warning and think again what you think about them people.

Just cos someone doesn't have a flag you may expect them to have, doesn't mean anything, it also doesn't mean they are on a VPN. There is alot of stuff we cannot detect or trace initially. So just cos they are in the room, does not mean they are safe to chat to , just cos they aren't kicked, doesn't mean they are allowed either. - TO expand on this, people can set what location they want, it is often used to deceive people or try breaking up patterns people recognize and avoid.

People can set location, and be double logged in ways that are more difficult to pick up on. If you suspect anything or are suspicious of anything report it with a PM to a mod. Certain people like to use 1 name to get familiar, and another name to use that information to get further.

Something really important in the room currently -

If anyone over 18 is PMing you and you are under 18, even if you feel safe, report this activity, see the previous point and expand it with this. These people have been doing these kind of things longer than some of you have even been ********, they are very adept at pushing their luck without you even realizing. They have no reason to be PMing you, and although you might not be hurt, some people are much more vulnerable, and your early action and reporting may help someone else further down the line.
This kind of predatory behavior is hard to spot, and hard to stop, they could PMing you nonsense, they could be PMing you for a long time and you may not know that they are pushing their luck, or you are at risk. Catching this early makes a huge difference, not just for yourself, but for people down the line that could get seriously hurt.
You may even find that without even being threatened, or even anything being said in a mean way that you are scared to report these users, but it is so important that you do. Even if you don't want your name used or screenshots of it cos you want to remain anonymous please do report it in whatever way you feel comfortable, to whatever mod, or even trusted friend you feel comfortable talking to. Just getting us on the right track goes a long long way, and if it matches up with other reports. an screenshots and complaints, it could be the last bit of information needed to remove these people.

Recruitment and Advertising.
This has been a well handled but long term issue for our room, it has a lot of vulnerable users, and a lot of long term users well associated with other sites.
They will try many things to try getting you off the site. They will use room issues, their friendship, even offers of positions on other sites to try getting you there. One big reason for this is Chat-avenue rooms are moderated and logged. Other sites are a lot more dangerous, normally ran or owned by previous users of our rooms that got banned. As previously, report this activity as soon as possible, your name does not have to be used in bans or as the one that reported these recruiters. As important as it is to stop advertising it is also important to keep you all protected from the backlash of the recruiters.

Watch each others backs, if you feel someone is been preyed on, do say something to them, or to a member of staff, sometimes its easier to spot what's happening to other people than it is if you were the one it is happening to, people are very good at hiding their intentions.

Some of you have been ******** longer than some of our mods have been, your experience can help out a lot. GC has always stayed the best cos people can pool together, this is not something we should lose, screenshots from users go a long way into keeping GC safe and dates back to even java. put your differences aside when its important and help everyone make the room a better place.
You can go back to bickering and hating when the dust settles.

I thought all side rooms had to be English regardless of if you created it because all side rooms follow same rules as the main chat.

If we had a moderator who was fluent in another language, I wouldnt see it as much of an issue. Maybe more a thing for times multiple moderators are in though. That being said, its always our job to look in on side rooms. But managing a conversation between 5 people would be easier than 50+ doing it in main all speaking different languages 🤣

Yeah but all the mods would have to be fluent in said language and how many mods know all the same 2nd language and how many will know the language people will want to make a side room for. I don't think it would work for it to be feasible for it to be allowed

Some quick additions.
Trolling.
People that are trolling or trying to cause disruption, it isn't always about the message, a lot of it is about intent. People try to play on the edge of the rules. but the reason for a message is as important as the content of the message. Be aware of these kinds of people, they will even openly question what rules are what, to use them to cause disruption, then use them against other users to try getting them kicked and stay safe them self. Once you notice this it is really obvious, don't bite the bait, make sure you get them in trouble, don't get yourself kicked for it. Ignore and report is your best weapon, any response to a troll and they win. And on the flip side know, we know who these people are, and all the tricks they try, so if you notice it as well, feel free to send a PM outlining the situation and what is going on.

Grooming
Adding on to the bit about older users messaging younger, be aware this happens from all genders in the room, you aren't always safe if its a woman that is PMing you, this was a great point raised by one of our ********.

And do watch main, the patterns are there, you are going to be looking for signs like a high percent of messages to certain age groups. Only coming active when certain people are active. Doing anything they can to phish for attention, trying to show off etc. When you see it is obvious, and from an outside observer you spot it a lot easier than the intended targets.

Another thing to watch out for is peoples stories, they will do anything to try impress or lure in people or attention. But a lot cannot keep track of one lie from the next, look for things that don't add up, stories that change, things that don't make sense, people being away from home one second but then taking new pictures at their house 100's of miles away the next. These are all warning signs. Warn the people that haven't noticed them.

And one last note on this, These people feed of validation and acceptance, people responding to them builds up their general level of trustability in the room and this IS SO OBVIOUS once you spot the signs. They will tag ride people that respond to everyone, they will be on the heels of mods knowing if a mod talks to them, then people are gonna trust them, A creep without any level of trust in main has no chance in peoples PM's, be careful of the ones you don't suspect more than the ones that are obvious and post their creepiness' straight in main.

Setting aside the hijackers of this thread.

Room is doing well despite my poor health and inability to really push things.

A few girls have stepped up and play games and admin room for me when I am not there.

We get 5 to 20 in the room at any given time which seems low in numbers to some but when its genuine ******** the room hums along. Rooms of 250 to 400 only ever have 20 or so chatting (usually spamming for pms and the like).

We have had very few issues only the odd guy and the troll/spammer most come to the room to get away from now he's allowed in the room. Once blocked these guys cant cause a serious issue.

The general consensus of those who attend is they are having more fun and feel safer than they ever have in Girls Chat.

Girls Chat is doing great! I applaud our new Admin and our mods. More girls are chatting in the main and everyone is having a good time. It's just a shame that certain people seem to feel that it's a "Men's" room and not Girls Chat. That it should be a General Chat instead of Girls Chat. Side Rooms are important for girls and should continue, regardless of what males might say.

There is already a general chatroom for all genders. The males that come into girls chat seem to think it’s a dating room which the mods have said over and over it’s not. I went into the side room for a bit last week and one of the vip males was in there complaining . So a side room that is supposed to be for females only was still being disturbed by males .

The general room isn't doing so great. Numbers of regulars is down. A large percentage of my extensive friends list who were daily ******** have not logged in since the recent server reboot, a bunch have left. The reports I am getting from various time zones is not great.

It maybe OK in a time zone but across the board it isn't.

Last nights side room reflected how people are feeling currently with a general consensus that they are feeling less safe and less heard that ever before.

I haven't seen this level of sustained anger in a chat room before.

The current side room movement is an attempt to counter that and create an atmosphere of safety and fun like we haven't seen in girls chat in my time here.

If we succeed we may even reverse the decision by those who generate the most income for VIP, those who donate it. A number of the major donors have said they are not going to do so anymore under the current system. One tells me they have $300 of renewals coming up that they don't intend to go ahead with.

Last night great vibe in the side room played a music game which most joined in on. Much laughter and a room buzzing.

A quote tonight from a regular younger chatter “Side rooms are the best thing about this place now”

If you see it happening with active room admins come and join us and add to the fun.

It could be an idea to give some sort of rough guide/estimate when the sideroom will be open, just to help with time zones around the world and make it easier for people to join in. I’m considering registering again although I’ve mostly been a lurker before, but if people had some idea of when things were going to take place it might draw more in!

There is alot of anger going on in there. The atmosphere has def changed. I thought coming back would make ppl relieved and many who enjoyed me in there are now wary of me that I’m back. Very big disconnect. I have checked in on the side room and that atmosphere is great may open it when I’m on to try and show I’m there to keep them safe.
