Disclaimer: Sorry if this poll is made incorrectly or if it is in the wrong thread. I am new to making polls, so hopefully this thread doesn't make anyone want to pull their eyes out. Also sorry if this is already a topic thats been discussed or already in action. This thread is also sort of a petition and a debate, please keep to the topic.

Should racist/homophobic comments towards a staff member be a immediate banable/mutable/kickable offense?

Note: In this thread we are only focusing on racist/homophobic comments aimed to staff members not regular members. I know thats a bit off but i mostly see staff members getting harassed with these racist/homophobic comments

I made this a poll because I wanted it to be a petition so maybe if we get enough yeses then the higher ups will take it into action.

So I'm asking everyone here, Should racist/homophobic comments be an immediate banable/kickable/mutable offense?

Edit: Changed it to racist and homophobic comments to staff members

Discuss!

Yeah I thought so, just people still decide to do it, so maybe if a little more action was taken into these comments people would stop.

Also changed it to homophobic comments also because that's a big issue too
The thing with a chat room is we can’t stop people from violating a rule, but we can infract them once they do it. And we do. Action is taken each and every time there is a violation of this rule. We also include homophobia in our rule.

🥹 Now I'm kinda feeling bad about making this thread, I didn't know it was already being taken into action.

I will use general chat for an example, last time I was in there someone was being racist to a mod, and the mod told them to stop like 3 times before they took any action, so why not take immediate action without giving all of those chances?

I think @H.R. PufnStuf is a good person to respond to that.

I also think each mod may have different tolerance levels. Some may want to give the chatter a chance to correct their behavior on their own first. In some cases a little grace is warranted. In others it isn’t. Each case is different.

I have more examples, like with Bread he is so homophobic to Ink, and his comments get passed off because he is speaking his opinion, but it's one thing to speak your opinion and it's another thing to continually talk about it and argue about it with a staff member. (I might be wrong about it getting passed off but I rarely see action taken)

The staff members are people too, they have feelings, and they protect the chat, why must they get all of this hate when they are doing good?

Unfortunately, getting hate kind of comes with the territory of being staff in a chat room. That’s why we like to select people with “thick skin”. I’m not saying staff should just accept abuse. Absolutely not. But there are ways of dealing with it and each staff and each situation is different.

I know it comes with the job, but does it have too? For my in real life job, I study, read and talk to people with multiple issues, whether it's personal issues or online issues, I can't go into full depth with that because it goes against the forum I signed but a person might be thick skinned but everyone has a breaking point, and being harrassed shouldn't be apart of a mods job, its like at this point people are just doing it to do it.

So that's why I think people should be givin less chances and more actions taken to these actions they purposefully do. I know thats harsh, but harassment to mods has just become a regular thing from the people who chat in their room. Hopefully that makes sense 😁.

In an ideal world, yes, all people would be treated kindly and decently. But that’s not the world we live in now. That’s just reality. Hopefully someday humans will transcend to a higher state of being where there is that type of compassion and love for everyone.

The moderators here have a tough job and they do it really well. And just to maybe give you a little peace of mind, at least for our rooms mods, we have daily group discussions where we talk about issues and also give each other emotional support and guidance to help deal with things when they get rough. Burnout is a very real issue and talking about things and feeling supported is a key way to combat it.

On a side note: Reality sucks and I hope I didn't make you mad in anyway with my questions or replies, thank you for responding.

I understand your points, and what you've said but I still think it should be an immediate banable/kickable/mutable offense especially since most people are just doing it to get a reaction out of a mod so they can complain, and then act like the guilty party.

The group session though are good, I'm very glad you guys do that! Thanks for maybe giving me a piece of mind lol, it was helpful.

Thank you for answering my questions ☺

Actually it goes on all the time in General Chat and the moderators just look the other way. The GLBT slangs go on all the time and nothing is done not even if reported.

Yes, reality does suck sometimes but it can also be amazing. There actually are good people out in the world who care for and help others. Find them and surround yourself with them, and more importantly, be one of them. 🙂
And no, of course you didn’t make me mad, you raised a very good topic and I’m happy to respond and I’m glad I helped in a little way.
Take care ✌🏻

I doubt that, I'm friends with the admin and one of the mods and trust me it may take them a while to take action but trust me, they take action. Also, this is aimed for the mods and adminis getting harrassed. Talking about regular people who chat getting harrassed is a topic for another day, also talking about the staff members not doing their job is a topic for another day. If that's what you ment.....
