Inkandtatts’ Inner Thoughts (Random Comments #715)

i understand your link. it just means 'saxon' i know that too.

still derogatory.

sassenach is a scots word meaning english.

'dago' is an english word meaning spanish.

both are derogatory.
FFS how many time do I have to say this. I AM A NATIVE SCOTS GAELIC SPEAKER. As such I'm fluent and know more about the language than you ever will unless you grew up with it.

Sasannach is NOT derogatory. I use it in normal speech a lot with no malicious intent. It's both a noun and adjective that simply describes which nationality someone or something is, in this case English.

The use of dago is an entirely different thing. It's a vile racial slur. If you can't grasp that simple difference then you have no basis for logical argument. Simply repeating a statement that's incorrect over and over does not make it true. By doing so against a person that knows more about that language and use than you do is merely making a fool of yourself.

Rejoining the EU defeats the purpose of independence. You're not a nationalist if you want to rejoin the EU.
Oh really? So an independent nation among other independent nations with a common goal defeats national identity?

Go and say that to a French, German, Italian or any other person in a country with EU membership and see how far you get.

Jeez, I swear the quality of debate is going downhill fast.

I can't honestly be bothered to look back over how ever many pages to check the copy/paste thing. It's not that important.

I'm a native Scots Gaelic speaker. I speak it daily with friends and family but I'm also fluent in English. Now as a native speaker of Gaidhlig I can assure you that the words 'sasainn' and 'sasannach' are used regularly to talk about England and English people without any malicious intent whatsoever. Much the same as you might say 'Scotland' and 'Scottish' in the same way. Neither are used as a derogatory term, they're just plain language (unlike 'scotch'). If you still doubt me then g00gle learngaelic dictionary and look them up for yourself. Don't use g00gle translate because it mangles most languages. You might have to use the non-slenderised version of sasainn which is sasann this is simply Gaidhlig grammar.

There's nothing that odd about the way I phrased the intent towards England post independence at all. We don't aim to close borders and require complex visas, we do want to rejoin the EU and if that means that *England* wants to impose its own border controls then meh. As for the whole Brexit fiasco I stand by what I said. Farage and Bojo the clown both used the whole sorry sage to make piles of cash by playing the general public. So did grease-fog and most of the other prominent tories. Lie after lie after sorry lie.

Scotland saw right through that and returned a rock solid country wide remain vote. That alone should tell you enough about how we view the rest of the world.

As for economic independence, don't believe everything that the 'keep them at all costs' brigade say. You need us far more than we need you and that shows every time we want another referendum. We've got the assets and resources to stand on our own.
You had an independence referendum and LOST hence you can't rejoin the EU because you're part of the UK and the Brexit vote takes into account the WHOLE of the UK.

Oh there will be another independence referendum. A lot of Scots want complete self governance and it'll come.

Once we have it we're free to join whoever we choose.

SNP 'we want to run our own affairs, we don't want Westminster interfering. Also SNP ' we want to be part of the EU and have the EU making decisions for us' lol it's not independence it's fake independence.

You have no idea of how things work do you? Independence can't come soon enough.

Which conveniently ignores the huge quantities of power we export to England and our ever growing renewable resources and world leadership in renewable technology and research. Oh and then there's mineral resources, income from tourism, export earnings and numerous other assets that don't show in income tax figures...

Again, England needs us more than we need England. If that weren't the case we wouldn't even need a referendum, you'd be happy to see the back of us as a money sink...
lets just say it's complicated, and we all have different opinions lol.

None of us are economists or philosophers here.

I dont think Scotland can survive as an independent country, but you are welcome - very welcome - to go your own way.

You can say that as many time as you like. still doesnt make your opinion right/correct.

Well I know a lot a bout the English language, and indeed other dialects of English, too. Including Scots. Scotch.

'sassenach', is used by some Scottish (especially nationalist) people as a - what did you say? - a vile slur against english people.

check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Nice to see you back after someone new covered the debate in your absence.

Christ. I’ll pray for you

that is the absolute truth. why dont you like it?

thats like why UK BRITAIN, with scotland, has a common goal.
Exactly like the EU.

The Scots whine so much.
Hence why I wish you would eff off and see how difficult life is being 'independent'.

The EU won't care about Scotland. you will be a tiny insignificant country, compared to germany and france.
Italy is a sad basket-case economically, btw.
Poland probably has a higher GDP than scotland.

Independence, in the EU?
Do you really think Scotland will get a seat at the table, in the EU?
... lets see how that goes.

you are delusional, friend.

Brexit was and is a sh it-show. but we voted to leave because we want self-governance.

It hasnt happened, it isnt possible, but we tried.

If and when you get 'independence', you will discover this too.

Ireland is a big power in the EU. hmm? is it?
Maybe Scotland can be too.

independence is a great idea.
but Scotland is like Lithuania and Estonia, in the EU. ... IE small countries they ignore.

The EU doesnt care about you. they wont listen to you.
England does care.
we have 1000 years of difficult history, but we have more in common in this Island, than that which divides us. I think.

ppps. sorry i typed too much.

SNP dont have a very good record also - a one party state.
SNP doesnt have a good record. fish people - salmon and sturgeon. they screwed up the cause of independence with their inanity and stupidity.

Shepherd's pie is made with lamb mince and it's a meat sauce made with the mince and veggies that's topped with mashed potatoes covered with a generous layer of grated cheese and then browned under a grill. It isn't mince over mash and veggies, that's just wrong.

Cottage pie is made with beef mince in the same way.

Haggis is sheep poop finely chopped and mixed with oatmeal, suet (lard), herbs and seasoning and stuffed into a sheep's stomach (phuck). Served with neeps (Swedish turnips) and tatties mashed together with butter, milk and seasoning. Food of the gods.

Black pudding stems from days when people couldn't afford to waste any of an animal. It used to be made when there was no meat available by bleeding your milk cow into a bowl with flour, fat, oatmeal and seasoning in it and then stopping the bleed so that the cow wasn't harmed. Usually stuffed into intestine and boiled. A quick meal and very nutritious. It's made with pigs blood these days and it's delicious. Treat yourself to some Stornaway black pudding.

@-Luka is a faux Scot that cannae cope with Scottish foods 😛
😛
America is a bit different , I would say thank God there is no haggis here but we have chitterlings which is pig poop.
We do not eat much lamb here. We make Shepherd's pie almost the same way except it is usually hamburger meat.
We use mince in referring to mincemeat pies. They were a horrid mix of dried fruits and suet served baked in a pie.
@-Luka how you survived that food I never will know. If I visited anywhere in the UK or Ireland there is always fish and chips except we use KETCHUP for the fries and tartar for the fish.

I've come to the reluctant conclusion that you're just one of those people that are dogmatic rather than reasoning and incapable of following and challenging a reasoned debate by showing reasoned evidence to back up your statements. In short, you're seriously out of your depth and beginning to look ridiculous.

Continuing to use 'scotch' after I pointed out that it's not an acceptable term of address tends to suggest that you're a bit of a troll as well.

As for "checking myself before I wreck myself" I'm perfectly calm and rational. I don't let random strangers get to me, I try to make them actually engage brain but once they exhibit unchanging dogmatic behaviour, I accept there's really no point. You can lead a fool to reason but you cannot make them think.

Really? Are you now exhibiting schizophrenic tendencies by quoting and attempting to use your own obvious alt account to bolster a losing argument?

You really aren't worth the effort of attempting to use reasoned thought with. Dear oh dear oh dear.

So sad and pathetic.

1. Sasannach is not a derogatory term. It's a Scots Gaelic word that means "English" much the same as the word for "England" is Sasainn. It's used in everyday conversation when talking about England or English folk.

2. Scotland is more than able to survive and thrive independently. You need us far more than we need you. The economic surveys always fail to take into account the Scottish wealth that simply vanishes across the border. Power exports are a good example.

3. England is a country of mixed politics with a spectrum ranging from far left to far right (too many of these morons though) and covering all shades between. It is not, and never has been, a conservative country.

4. Scottish Nationalists do not seek Trumpesque barriers between the countries and would maintain friendly relations with the rest of the UK as we always have. We seek the right to complete self governance and fiscal independence and also, should we choose , the right to rejoin the EU. We have many friends in Europe and returned a rock solid remain vote at the referendum but that, as always was ignored by the xenophobic old white men in Westminster that lied and cheated their way into destroying the bonds forged over decades. The same men that now are looking to force migrants back to their countries of origin. Look at the lessons of history, especially 1930s Germany and hang your collective heads in shame.
I'm sure that says grabhersnatch
