So after Week One of Finals

    - Richmond beat Hawthorn. Apparently there were a lot of Brisbane Lions fans in the grandstands giving them hell.
    - Melbourne beat Geelong. I think the Cats were lucky to sneak into the top eight, only for the Demons to exorcise their demons on their opponent instead.
    - GWS Giants beat Sydney. Giants had a training session. Sydney might as well nick off back to South Melbourne with disgrace. The city belongs to the Orange, Charcoal and White.
    - West Coast beat Collingwood. I think if there is a way to find top gear in the last 5 minutes of play West Coast has some method to achieve it. I am not suggesting they have cheated their way to the prelims... not at all...

I batted .750 in Week One.

Think i will 'adopt' Melbourne as my team to follow - so will tip them and Hawthorn to go through to the Semifinals...

Will be able to watch Friday's game but on Saturday night the All Blacks play the Springboks in the Rugby Championship at my local stadium and I'll be there!

Given the six results thus far it is difficult to see the All Blacks not winning by 20 or more:

    18/19 August
Australia 13 New Zealand 38, Sydney
South Africa 34 Argentina 21, Durban

    25/26 August
New Zealand 40 Australia 12, Auckland
Argentina 32 South Africa 19, Mendoza

    8 September
New Zealand 46 Argentina 24, Nelson
Australia 23 South Africa 18, Brisbane

    This Weekend
    15 September

New Zealand vs South Africa, Wellington
    Australia vs Argentina, Gold Coast

If the All Blacks beat the Boks by 3 tries or more (eminently possible), they'll clinch the Championship (again) even before they play their reverse games in Buenos Aires and Pretoria.

A threepeat of Rugby World Cups (The 2019 Cup is in Japan next October/November) is a long odds-on probablity!

    Ain't life good!

I support your Rugby endeavors and enthusiasm for the sport, despite the game not really being my thing. Happy for the All-Blacks to have their 'world beaters' status as I couldn't care less for the Wallabies.

The only problem with your AFL tips is that Melbourne, in fact play Hawthorn on Friday night! Only one will advance to play the Eagles. Almost 10pm there, sure you've had a long day, so I won't hang **** on you...

I think both games will be crackers and whoever wins will still make for exciting prelim finals!

Still think it will be a Richmond/West Coast grand final, in which Richmond will go back to back Premiers

Melbourne beat the Eagles in Perth in Round 22. I think they can do it again. Also think the Dees will be too quick for Hawthorn, but I'm always wary of the Hawks uncontested game style.

What about a GWS-Melbourne Grand Final ha ha

Hawthorn have lost Jaeger O'Meara for tomorrow nights semi against Melbourne. Huge blow to their midfield!

Um no. As much as I am a Giants fan, I doubt the team has an edge to get past the Preliminary Final. It will be third time lucky in that case :P

Someone has to to challenge Richmond. Or else it will be just like Hawthorn in 2013, 14 & 15...

    Yep.

Still, if they're good enough to win twice, why begrudge them?

It's like the All Blacks - World Rugby Cup Champions in 2011 and in 2015 and raging hot favourites to threepeat a year out from the 2019 Cup.

Not our fault we're so wonderful!

Yep good points you make. We love an underdog though, and this year the Eagles and Melbourne have that status. I would include GWS & Collingwood, but I don't see them beating Richmond in a prelim.

Can Melb and Rich make the GF?

Will go for that if they can.

Big day here - all on my tod (i.e. no women dictating my life today!) so I plan a big steak lunch, some punting, a bit of pubbing, the big game (New Zealand vs South Africa, at 7.35pm), some clubbing!

Clubbing ha ha - are you watching the races at Flemington & Randwick as well? Winx going for 27 straight I hear. Yes Richmond & Melbourne could play off in the GF...

    Semi-Final washup

Melbourne beats Hawthorn. Interesting, if the AFL had its way these two teams would not be playing each other ever again
Collingwood beats GWS Giants. I feel sorry for the winner in this one having to play Richmond...
