Anxiety Treatment Question

Hi everyone,

I’ve been struggling with anxiety for a while and am considering different treatment options. I’ve tried mindfulness and some over-the-counter supplements, but my symptoms persist. I’m curious about others’ experiences with therapy, medication, or alternative treatments.

Are there specific methods or therapies that have worked well for you?

I’m also wondering how to approach the conversation with my doctor to ensure I get the right support.

Any advice, personal experiences, or resources you can share would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a third wave person when it comes to anxiety treatment. Try listening to the Disordered podcast. They get into a lot of it. It goes against a lot of 'normal' therapy stuff but is taught by anxiety therapists, if that makes sense. I really enjoy their perspectives. If you want find a therapist you may have to 'date' a couple until you get to one you really click with.

But still, getting starting in therapy can be a really good thing. You won't know until you try. i would say to your doctor that you want a therapist who specializes in anxiety. Also, has your doctor diagnosed you with an anxiety disorder? That's probably the first step. Also, some offices have social workers who double as short term therapy care. That can be a good place to start with less pressure.

Best of luck.

Mindfulness is a good tool for anxiety. The goal is to be in the here and now. Mindfulness teaches you to be one with your anxiety. You identify what makes you anxious and then face it.
Mindfulness helps with procrastination. We often will put off things which make us anxious. If we face what is making us anxious we often find that the result of facing it is a lot less worse than we imagine it will be.
Mindful breathing is easy to do and when done right it can be amazing. Inhale as much air as you can and hold it for five seconds then let it out slowly through your nose.
A therapist can help you through this. As Punky said sometimes it takes dating a few. If you can afford services like Better Help or Talk Space then you can pick your therapist and if you are not connecting request a different one.
Sometimes what you really need is just someone to listen to you.

Depending on your country there are also free call numbers that will connect you with counsellors that can assist if you're too "hyper-stimulated" and can't self manage in the moment.

For example we have Lifeline in Australia (their number is 131114)

I am hesitant to post this but here it goes.

I spent along time researching the path/paths I could possibly take to deal with my mind and health.

I have recently micro dosed psychedelics psilocybin to be precise with much success.

There is a lot of evidence of the effectiveness of this treatment but sadly much more research needs to be done before it becomes and main stream treatment for various mental ailments.

I have to say I don't recommend it as such but if you consider it do a lot of research 1st. I took 2 years to finally take the plunge including talking to those experienced in this area.

Most who I talked to used took this path after all others failed.

I’ve found routine and regular sleep help a lot with anxiety. Also talking to someone, even if it’s just venting, makes a big difference for me personally.

I’ve noticed that CBD sometimes helps take the edge off, especially on rough days. I found a few decent options through an online smokeshop that had gummies and oils with low THC, which feels safer and more manageable for daily use. It's not a fix-all, but it gave me a bit more calm without needing to increase my prescription.

Actually, I know that many people suffer from anxiety/depression these days. And I am no exception. I am currently trying to overcome it and improve my mental and physical health. So when I found out that I could [DO NOT POST LINKS]. I was pleasantly surprised because now I can be sure that I can easily find it when I need it.

some say psychedlics help them, professionals suggest legal medication ontop of " therapy " which really is just learning coping skills and desensitizing oneself to situations.

best to do your own research on top of seeking actual doctor and therapist help, and not rely on strangers on the internet.
