How are all of you dealing with distance learning, and for those of you doing research, are you able to do it from home?

I have a semi-hard time paying attention in my zoom classes; it is too easy for me to be on my phone the entire time PLUS my professors record the lectures so I can re-watch them when I need to. I have research that I need to get done; I've been able to get SOME of it done from home, but my undergraduate assistant (I'm in a PhD program) is not allowed on campus at all, so it's been difficult to coordinate.

I’m taking a graphic design class using Zoom currently. It’s going well but like you said phone is a distraction sometimes. My professor takes the time to explain things slowly.

One of my professors does, the other one literally doesn't give a crap

Hi,
I hate distance learning... How do you guys manage so many tasks? Why does it feel so unbearable at times? I'm a sophomore at college and my professor is crazy about conferences and the stuff, he wants me to get ready for the upcoming conference and sends piles of materials which I can barely manage to read, not mentioning the fact that I need to analyze them, take notes, compare definitions and so on...

I wanted to refuse to participate, but then I realized that it wouldn't do any good and I don't want to spoil our relationships with this professor. He will be teaching me the next semester too... What would you guys do in this case?

Online learning has taken critical hits for courses that need lab time. A lot of my courses are just discussions now and there's no lab but we still have to finish lab assignments which is extremely obnoxious and getting help is near impossible.

It's tough, especially with the whole distractions thing going on~ it's so easy to lose focus and then the next thing you know...well, that's the thing, you don't know the next thing because you've been on your phone or daydreaming XD but i'd say put your phone some place farther away and make a schedule for yourself~ getting help is a pain in the neck for me too, but as always, don't be afraid to speak up in class even if you lag a little >_<

I am also doing distance learning and I have found out that you need to be really self disciplined to do it. Set yourself a strict schedule to follow, such as 2 hours in the morning > break for a few hours > 2 hours in the afternoon > break > then another 2 hours in the evening as well as a strict criteria to meet so something like 1000 words of your PhD thesis/dissertation to write up in the session then research / literature review during the next session and so on, and you have to WANT to do it else those hours will seem like a long boring braindead slog.

I'm personally taking 2 online classes currently at the moment while fulfilling all my other regular hs classes. It's quite different considering everything is being utilized on zoom and no in person connections. In some ways it can be challenging other times I see it to be rewarding as well least online provides the full curriculum of your classes and deadlines for mid term and final exams.

Honestly, I don't know. I would choose what I like best. At university I studied to be a teacher and in my last year I realized that it was not mine. I decided to go to work but not to drop out of university (so my parents insisted). Usually(removed) helped me with my studies because I spent a lot of time at work. So I am happy that my profession is now not related to the profession I got at university!

I’m distance learning at the moment and you just have to be strict on yourself and set aside realistic amounts of time to get the work done. A large part of it is independent study so you need to find your learning style an adapt to that. I’m gonna be a bit of a grandma here and remind you that eating properly and getting enough sleep really do help.

I have also found making a friend doing the same material is great for collaborative thinking and getting a different perspective, and sharing notes.

Truly pertaining to me — Zoom fatigue is real, and multitasking becomes an alluring approach to the recorded meetings. I have been trying to crack down on screen time and chunk tasks to maintain my focus. Research like this remains difficult when conducted remotely for coordination, but shared documents and a check-in schedule with my undergrad help a bit!
