My Condolences,

This world is sure something else. At least six people were killed, and dozens more seriously injured when a gunman opened fire in a mass shooting at a July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois, just after 10am on Monday morning. I am praying for America and the whole wide world now and forever. Evil is everywhere today more than should be. Praying for the families that have lost their loves ones today. I wish I knew why people are out to take other people's live in real life. I will never understand some people in our world. R.I.P to the fallen today. I am so very sad. I just want to cry now. Why why why are people so evil?
Such a sad world we live in, and it gets worst by the minute. I feel terrible that this happened today or anytime it happens. Terrible some people are. Evil is terrible.


Gunfire erupted at the parade in Highland Park, near Chicago, about 14 minutes after it kicked off at 10am local time on Monday morning.


Police had earlier described the shooter as a white male with long dark hair, of small build and wearing a white or blue t-shirt.

They recovered a high-powered rifle from the scene, but still consider the suspect to be armed and dangerous, police said.

Sgt. Christopher Covelli, from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, said the shooter appeared to have taken up a sniper position on the rooftop.

The conditions of the injured ranged from serious to critical, Mr. Covelli added.
Some died today and some are very badly injured.
“This was very random, very intentional and a very sad day,” Mr. Covelli said during a later update, adding the suspect could still be in city or could have fled the area.

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering said the shooting has “terrorized” the city of 30,000. A small community.

“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this devastating time. On a day that we came together to celebrate community and freedom, we’re instead mourning the tragic loss of life and struggling with the terror that was brought upon us,” Ms. Rotering said.

She asked everyone in the area to remain calm, and on “high alert”.

“Please contact your loved ones and ensure that they’re safe and let them know that you’re safe as well. This situation, as you know, is evolving rapidly and we will continue to update you as we gain information and stabilize the situation,” Ms. Rotering said.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois condemned the shooter’s actions on Monday afternoon.

“There are no words for the kind of monster who lies in wait and fires into a crowd of families with children celebrating a holiday with their community,” he said in a statement.

“There are no words for the kind of evil that robs our neighbors of their hopes, their dreams, their futures.”

More than 100 local, state and federal law enforcement officers, including the FBI, are working on the investigation.

My heart is so broken now again for this matter. It is so sad that we celebrate 4th of July with people dying from a bad evil person, that has to take other people's lives away from them. They did nothing wrong the ones that died and got badly hurt today. This world gets worse every day. It is sad. No wonder I stay home a lot. I cannot even go out to have fun. I might get shot down dead.
God bless this world. God we all need you. I hope they find the evil bad person who did this. SMH!
God be with the families that lost their loves ones today just celebrating the 4th of July and never made it back home today. Just a shame. Evil needs to leave our world right now. Praying hard now. I am so sorry our world is full of evil people. Terrible people go away. Evilness go away. Hate go away. Mean people go away.

People with evil intentions would easily go around the laws and purchase them from the black market. So now you only have those types with guns and innocent people unable to protect themselves. Seems unfair.

Not really, would take effort to buy off black market, unlike the normal thing you see here which is guy getting pissed at his doctor, taking credit card and buying an automatic weapon and ammo and shooting up the doctor's office, Fool proof plan if your plans include killing yourself then you don''t have to pay off the card. Pretty sure the Black Market deals in cold hard cash, See the problem with you second amendment nuts no one wants to take your rifles and handguns away. We need to make it more difficult that is all. I would hope you guys at least feels a little sad when a dozen of so young children get murdered at school. Instead of thinking this would not happen if teachers and the students were armed. God bless you anyway. I hope you and yours are never victims of gun violence.

Unfortunately, criminals don't follow rules so the only group gun laws would hinder are law abiding-citizens. Buying guns on the black market is also not hard, much like drugs or any other deals done in that form. It’s actually a lot easier to get a gun through the black market than it is to obtain a gun legally, because they don’t have to go through background checks or history (or pay fees, take a class, pass a test, etc). Even people who own guns legally for self-defense have to justify how or why they’ve shot someone. You can’t just go around shooting people unless you felt like your life was threatened.

People have been using trucks to kill in a mass murder. Should we outlaw trucks then? Statistically, more knives are used for murders than guns. Should we outlaw knives too?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 38,000 deaths from firearms (including suicides) occurred in the United States in 2016 and nearly 85,000 injuries from firearms occurred in 2015. That’s an average of 105 deaths and more than 230 injuries from firearms each day.

In addition to the thousands killed or injured, myriad families must also cope with the consequences of this violence. In terms of the financial toll, although the estimates vary, it’s generally held that gun violence expenses medical charges, loss of income, daily care-support, and criminal justice expenditures cost the U.S. economy approximately $229 billion annually.

Gun violence should be considered a public health issue, not a political one an epidemic that needs to be addressed with research and evidence-based strategies that can reduce morbidity and mortality. Gun violence affects people of all ages and races. Family physicians care for victims of gun violence and their families every day. These physicians, who witness the substantial impact firearm-related violence has on the health of their patients, families, and communities, have the power to help improve the safety and wellbeing of those groups.

The complexity and frequency of firearm violence, combined with its impact on the health and safety of Americans, suggest that a public health approach should be a key strategy used to prevent future harm and injuries. This approach focuses on three elements: scientific methodology to identify risk and patterns, preventive measures, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The AAFP encourages this public health approach and supports research that identifies which policies and interventions effectively reduce morbidity and mortality, while also respects the Constitutional right to bear arms.

The American Academy of Family Physicians joined the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Physicians, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Psychiatric Association urging the president and Congress to take nessasary steps to address gun violence.
