Staff buying users, VIP

This thread is to discuss the precedence that is set when a staff member buys VIP for a normal user. This isn’t about any specific staff member, or room. Just a topic of generalities.

Just a friendly gesture, or a protection racket?

What are the implications when a staff member, be it moderator or administrator buys VIP for user? In particular a problematic user. We all know that certain protections are extended to VIP users, which makes it significantly harder to ban them. Even for some of the more grotesque rule violations, which been addressed on multiple occasions.

In the professional world, this is called favoritism. When it’s someone you’re intimate with, it’s a degree of sexual harassment. Or if it’s your family, then that is nepotism. Whatever the semantics are, it’s something that is generally frowned upon in society. Especially in today’s society.

But when you aide someone in criminal behavior, allowed to go about unchecked doing and saying whatever they want regardless of legality. Then that is aiding, and abetting. Which makes the website an accomplice, and accountable for the behavior taking place on the platform unchecked. Seemingly protected by having VIP status, which seems that Staff have been emptying their coffers to buy some of these questionable users VIP.

I understand this is a chatsite, which isn’t meant to be serious, I as well understand that the Staff are volunteers. By no means are they professionals, by no means is this a professional setting. But having standards is how you provide a quality service, and being this is a business that provides a service first, and a playground for childish adults second then #1 Chat-Avenue should be held accountable by the same standards.

What does everyone else think?

I don't think anyone should just be able to buy VIP for whoever they like , want it ? buy it yourself.

Especially when the recipient is a court ordered criminal who grooms underage girls, violently racist and homophobic (convicted) and emulates herself wanking on microphone all over forums. Did I mention the nudes she posts that she likes children to witness?

~~~~ very VIP worthy 🤨
Edit: silly Luka forgot general chat admin condones this in his room.
Edit 2: inb4 rUle suBseQUEntLY aMenDEd
Yeah, if someone has posted nudes to minors on a site, the admin of any room should not be giving a VIP. That is what someone who exposes minors to nudes is, btw, that's not an attack, that's law. They're a sex offender. They can be legally actioned in most of the world.
I get running competitions and allowing people to win VIP from admins, but to buy it just for the sake of it has always seemed odd, regardless of whom that admin is.
There was an issue raised a while back regarding sending someone VIP as harassment, and the VIP-receiving chätter needing to make multiple requests to have their unwanted VIP removed. The argument was made that no one should have such control to change another chätter's profile to that degree without permission or cause, and having an unwanted "gift" forced upon them was harassment. A solution was proposed to be able to accept or reject the VIP if one was gifted, but this was never implemented. I personally had someone insistent on sending an unwanted VIP to me, so I used a guest account for many years as to avoid having this forced on me - and that fan may or may not have been a staff member.
The above is not quite the same topic, but adjacent to the thread. Sometimes staff members will do competitions with VIPs as rewards as a way to promote the site, but gifting VIP as staff can cause concerns of favouritism - not to mention the afore mentioned issue of potential harassment.
i always thought it was so odd the recipient of the gift vip had no say in it.
To be clear, I am not referring to gimmicky competitions. That act as just smoke and mirrors for the calamity that is actually occurring under everybody’s noses. I am of course talking about the inappropriate conflict of interest that is posed when a Staff member buys a regular user VIP, especially a problematic user. And the precedence that sets with everyone else.
The content of your post was clear and I agreed with your concerns here:
gifting VIP as staff can cause concerns of favouritism
I additionally posted about a different, but related issue. If you feel my comment derailed your thread, you're welcome to report it and I will gladly consent to its removal (mentioning this explicitly since UMs don't normally delete posts that don't break the rules).
I will add a little to the concern. In the past when complaints have been made to the admin that a user is posting inappropriate things we have been told that the user is a VIP and as an admin they can not ban them as bans have to come from chatmaster. In appearances especially if the VIP had been gifted to that user by an admin or mod it would seem the mod and or admin looks like they are not only condoning the behavior but in appearances it looks like they may be encouraging this.
Also as stated there are instances when someone is gifted by does not want it.
I really believe that there should be a blanket ban on anyone gifting VIPs. If they feel the need to gift they can gift gold or cheese towers or other incentives.
Always glad to see a "new account" pop up around here with "screenshots" "not about anyone"
This is really a staff complaint (at a minimum) or a complaint about any/all staff and a specific user- and you suggest its a "crime" for any staff member to gift anyone else a VIP ? By extension any user gifting VIP is vicariously at fault for the subsequent actions of another user? That's quite an extrapolation amongst your assumptions.
The rules about VIP are found in the site Terms of service- section 14. found here: https://www.chat-avenue.com/tos.html There is a specific part about gifted VIP. (by anyone)
Since you are making references/implying of "criminality" take your "proof" to @Chatmaster Hopefully forums admin will take a look at your account at the same time.
