This thread is to discuss the precedence that is set when a staff member buys VIP for a normal user. This isn’t about any specific staff member, or room. Just a topic of generalities.
Just a friendly gesture, or a protection racket?
What are the implications when a staff member, be it moderator or administrator buys VIP for user? In particular a problematic user. We all know that certain protections are extended to VIP users, which makes it significantly harder to ban them. Even for some of the more grotesque rule violations, which been addressed on multiple occasions.
In the professional world, this is called favoritism. When it’s someone you’re intimate with, it’s a degree of sexual harassment. Or if it’s your family, then that is nepotism. Whatever the semantics are, it’s something that is generally frowned upon in society. Especially in today’s society.
But when you aide someone in criminal behavior, allowed to go about unchecked doing and saying whatever they want regardless of legality. Then that is aiding, and abetting. Which makes the website an accomplice, and accountable for the behavior taking place on the platform unchecked. Seemingly protected by having VIP status, which seems that Staff have been emptying their coffers to buy some of these questionable users VIP.
I understand this is a chatsite, which isn’t meant to be serious, I as well understand that the Staff are volunteers. By no means are they professionals, by no means is this a professional setting. But having standards is how you provide a quality service, and being this is a business that provides a service first, and a playground for childish adults second then #1 Chat-Avenue should be held accountable by the same standards.
