Symbols restricted

I've noticed symbols such as tilde (~) and caret (^) are being restricted to only vip members. It doesn't make much sense to introduce these other than as an excuse to reduce the bot spam by forcing people to use VIP instead if they want to use symbols literally available on their keyboard, maybe have these restrictions for guest users instead of everyone?

Hello, at least in the Adult Chat rooms, this was recently implimented as a way to reduce the spam bots who flood the rooms. And it’s working. There’s been a noticeable reduction in bots. This should improve the user experience for chattters and help the moderator staff to focus on other important issues.

Is there anyway this could be changed or is this going to always stay the case and the only way to post symbols is to get VIP?

That would be up to the site owners. But since this was just introduced I’m thinking it’s going to be here for awhile.

Well, I hope they change it at some point but these bots adapt and use symbols that aren't already filtered and at that point you would probably have to filter every single symbol which would be stupid.
 
I've been saying for years that the site should only be allowing basic English characters without any special fonts or styles to squash bots. I'm glad we've at least started to follow through but it's a shame it took this long to implement what little *has* been done. Just restrict all characters other than one single English list necessary for most words.

Writing facade instead of façade is not that big of a deal if it helps to keep bots out.
