I feel like this is the most appropriate place for this topic.

Why is there no unanimous standard as to what "cloning" is considered?
Surely some set of standards can be implemented sitewide and this "cloning" doesnt need to be determined on room-to-room basis.

I gave the following example:
Profile name: Sean
Clone names: houseants, oceanseanoodle, horseantlers

I asked if that was considered cloning because obviously trolls will deliberately make names like that to harass the original nameholder by pinging the original profile name whenever users tag the "clone" name.

I was given the answer: no its not cloning

I then gave a further example:
Profile name: John
Clone names: John1, CoolJohn

I was given the answer: yes its cloning

what?

Cloning is when a user is using a reg’s name. Like Apollo, Bread, Spleeny, Johnny, LostCause. Those names have been established for a very long time to that one specific person, if someone were to use that name they are indeed cloning and consequently would be asked to change their name. If someone is using Apollo2000 then that’s a different user, it literally has to be the same name. If someone is using Apollosucks then that’s obviously trolling.
If the name hasn’t been used for a very long time, for example the old admin Shadow hasn’t been around for many years, the name is fine to use as no one even knows who that person is anymore (sorry shadow). It’s not rocket science so if this doesn’t explain it to you… I’m sorry for you.

Sitewide standards are set by the site owners. Wait for them to respond.
They won’t respond lol

Just because someone with the username “Sean” doesn’t mean names like “houseants, oceanseanoodle, horseantlers” is cloning. It be like someone’s using the name Jalapeño bread lol.

Cloning can mean copying the username of known users. But it maybe acted differently depending on the moderator taking action (I’m not sure about that.) If a person used the name Johnny1 I probably won’t act on it unless they have the intentions of cloning.

Im not sure how a set of numbers differentiates from a set of letters? Your first sentence contradicts that statement?
So by your standards i can name myself Johnny1? Johny2000?
But johnny says Johnny1 is cloning?

Technically cloning is the exact name.

what? Can you explain the reasoning behind how you determine whether a name is a clone or not? You and johnny are posting contradicting statements and johnny wont explain how he comes to his conclusion on whether a name is a clone or not, other than "because i said so"

It’s not a hard concept. It’s been that way since I started modding in 2010 and CMs rules are crystal clear for staff. Cloning is exact name. If you’re upset because someone is using cornbread… then handle it with the appropriate admin, if he thinks it’s trolling then something can be done, if it’s just a user using that name with no meaning behind it then suck it up buttercup.

The admins create rules around the room bread, Apollo isn’t the vgc admin anymore.

Quit trolling.
