Why do threads get locked when no rule has been broken?

Because one of the UMs answered it. I understand it makes you feel cringy if someone you don't like gifts you VIP when you don't want it, but it cannot be removed as there are no refunds for a VIP purchase.

Because this place is unfair and unreasonable.
They site claims its an open discussion forum but its not.

Dont expect to change it ive been trying for 3 years

>you open a thread
>someone responds
>they make their comment and close the thread
>there is no discussion or reasoning
>whether you like the answer, or not. Whether you understand it or not. They will say "problem solved" admin replied.
>lock thread

>this leads to upset people
>this leads to repeated posts
>this leads to people seeking vengeance and trolls being born
>they use that against you and claim you are harassing by making repeat posts so they can ban you

Sorry to be picky but my points haven't actually been responded to. And even if they had, I don't get what Chat Avenue's problem is with people using a discussion forum to have a discussion (which is why I'm asking this question now).

Your point about refunds isn't really valid as I'm not asking for anyone to be given a refund.

My apologies, I skimmed the thread and thought HR's post was the answer. My only guess was it was locked because the ADMIN of singles chat was looking into it. Threads are locked to prevent them from going off topic and getting out of hand. I'm assuming one of the UMs felt it was being handled in PMs so they closed it.

If you were such a “professional chatter” 🙄 you’d know the points she’s referring to are in her other thread which she referenced in her original post 🤦🏻‍♂️

To the OP, I see your point and hopefully DD can respond here with any updates to your original concern. Good luck!!

Let me lay something fresh on ya:
Chatmaster is the overlord(s): They are the final say of how the site runs and any changes that want to be implented.
Forum UMs manage this forum, its users and its content
Admins have a duty to address your grievances in chat through the complaint thread
Mods hold no power here other than making "educated" comments and having a cool title

It is my personal choice not to accept “gifts” from people I don’t know, and this particularly applies to strangers on the internet. This site’s current policy forces women to accept financial gifts from men they don’t know. This is irresponsible and unethical and facilitates sexual harassment. I have no issue with VIP status itself, but if I wanted it, I would pay for it myself.

This whole issue could be resolved by allowing users the option to accept or reject “gifted” VIP. The site would not lose any money from doing this as I am not asking for anyone to be refunded. The decision to send a "gift" would be at the buyer's own risk.
It doesnt just force women to accept gifts. Thats kind of a sexist thing to say.
False. The site would lose potential sales/revenue. As of now the user can spend money as he wishes. If you lay the decision on the giftee then a sale would be potentially lost as they wouldn't have to accept said gift. The decision to send a gift is already at the buyers own risk. If you dont agree with it then you can simply chat elsewhere or try to convince chatmaster to lose revenue.
According to this page, the VIP upgrade is “optional”, but this is clearly untrue. In my experience it is not optional, but forced. As things currently stand, a user who has VIP forced upon their account does not even get told who the “gift” has come from, or for how long it will be forced on them.

I’ve raised this issue in the past and nothing has been done about it. Instead of listening to concerns, Chat Avenue has reacted by changing its terms and conditions without notifying its users. According to previous court rulings in the United States, Chat Avenue cannot do this. There are numerous explanations of this online, such as this one: https://medium.com/@jlkoepke/we-can...s-of-terms-of-service-agreements-712409e2d0f1

Perhaps it needs to be edited but its not likely to. The VIP upgrade IS optional to those who seek to purchase it. While that page maybe erroneous in context, it does not define the regulations of the site, only the room. The room rules and regulations listed on your photo are NOT the terms and regulations of the site so you are misinformed as the ToS never actually change.

L8EwmBm.jpg

The ToS can be viewed by clicking the bottom of the page here:

Section 1 covers the terms i just mentioned
1. Terms
By accessing this website, you are agreeing to be bound by the #1 Chat Avenue Terms and Conditions of Use (Rules and Regulations)
Section 14 covers VIP memberships
14. VIP Membership
VIP donated to your account cannot be removed upon request. As part of your agreement to use this website, you also agree that your account can be subject to a VIP gifted to your account. You are welcome to set your account on delete or cease to use the account permanently.

Chat Avenue’s current advice on this issue is that a person who is “gifted” VIP without consent should delete their account. Why should I be the one to delete my account, and lose my friend list, when I’m not the one who has done anything?

While you do make a valid point, this is their website and this is their rule. If you negligently chose to enter the site without reading the terms of service thats on you.

When I've brought this up before, the thread has quickly been locked with no explanation (even though I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting this). So I'm going to ask again now, before discussion is blocked: @Chatmaster, please can you remove the VIP that has been forced onto my account. Thanks.

It clearly lays the solution for you. Delete the account or cease to use it. You are welcome to address your grievances to @Chatmaster but the likelyhood of him responding is already low and the likelyhood of him deleting VIP from your account is even lower as its negligence on your behalf.

Continuing to make repeat threads on the same topic will eventually gather the attention of the forum overlords and cost you an infraction of spamming. Once you gather 3 infractions it can result in a ban from forums.

Why are you always on my ass. Geese louise i am trying to help!

actually the TOS was changed AFTER she made her account... which was her point in the last thread and no one notified her which is against the law. TOS and rules change all the time to fit whatever whim cm wants. MOST websites create yearly changes and send its registered users an email, some websites utilize a pop up. @Bread. you yourself have made countless threads regarding notice of rule changes or specifications on rules, its surprising your ok with no notice of a TOS breech.

@Bread. , thanks for your response, but a number of the points you make are incorrect.

It doesnt just force women to accept gifts. Thats kind of a sexist thing to say.

I didn't say it "just" forces women to accept gifts. I said it forces women to accept gifts, which is accurate.

False. The site would lose potential sales/revenue. As of now the user can spend money as he wishes. Sorry, but what you are saying is "false". I'm not blocking any sale from happening. The sale of the gifted VIP can go ahead, regardless of my decision to refuse it. No revenue is lost by removing the VIP that has been forced onto my account. In fact, the site's own Terms and Conditions, which you yourself refer to, make it very clear that no refunds will be granted, and I have no objection to that at all.

Perhaps it needs to be edited but its not likely to. The VIP upgrade IS optional to those who seek to purchase it. While that page maybe erroneous in context, it does not define the regulations of the site, only the room.

It does need to be edited, yes, because it is incorrect and misleading. The fact is this site says the VIP upgrade is optional, when it is not.

The room rules and regulations listed on your photo are NOT the terms and regulations of the site so you are misinformed as the ToS never actually change.

This is factually incorrect. The ToS of the site have been updated, as they did not used to mention anything about gifted VIP not being removable. I believe this change was made to the ToS as a direct result of me raising this issue. The ToS have changed since I registered for the site. Chat Avenue has a responsibility to notify its users of such a change (see the link I posted in the other thread). The site is actually acting illegally by not doing so.

While you do make a valid point, this is their website and this is their rule. If you negligently chose to enter the site without reading the terms of service thats on you.

I did read the Terms of Service before I registered. The Terms of Service have since changed, without notification and without opportunity to accept or reject. You can research this issue online if you'd like to, and you'll see multiple articles and examples showing that I'm correct on this.

It clearly lays the solution for you. Delete the account or cease to use it.

To this I would repeat, why should I be the one to lose my account because of the actions of someone else?

You are welcome to address your grievances to @Chatmaster but the likelyhood of him responding is already low and the likelyhood of him deleting VIP from your account is even lower as

I have aired my grievances several times. Unfortunately because this same issue continues to occur, I'm left with little choice but to continue to air the same grievance.

its negligence on your behalf.

Please explain how I have been negligent?

This thread is actually on a separate topic.

Well the first thread doesnt state when she made the account?

No, but it does state that the terms have changed since I made the account (something you chose to dispute regardless of not knowing when my account was set up).

Here are the terms as they were PRIOR to OCT 2018. While the terms did not cover VIP gifts then, you did accept to any future changes.

She was only a VIP recently I believe, which is why she made a second account, if this is who i think it is. If you're not going to help her, at least stop trying to argue with her like you're a part of CM's legal team.

Second account? This is the first time im hearing abot a second account? What? I am helping her but im only going off what she is giving me, i am not arguing with her so please mind your business.

So @Hildancer, what accounts do you hold and when were they created?

As I've already said, a website cannot simply state that it is going to change its terms any time it likes without notice. This is illegal. The site can't get around the law just because it's said it's going to do so. The law still applies. Because of this, Point 7 above is actually in conflict with Point 8.

Can I ask how you have accessed the terms from a specific date, as I would very much like to read those.

The second account isn't relevant to the discussion. I've made a temporary second account to chat with for the time being, so that I can chat on the site without using the "gift" that has been forced upon me.
