The adult rooms are adult rooms because it is still illegal to expose to under 18yo nudes and porn, and to have under 18yo post nudes. Under 18's posting nude selfie could find themselves on a sex offenders register in most civilised countries.
I see the logic and the reasoning behind the question but a couple of perspectives:
Adults will lie about their age and go in kids’ rooms anyway as the staff from TC and KC will confirm, just like under 18s come into adult orientated rooms and pretend to be older.
IRL you get adults mixing with under 18s/under 16s, eg in sports clubs etc, so in principle online should be no different.
On top of that, if it applies to rooms it would apply to forums too and suggests that those of us who interact with any under 16s/18s shouldn’t.
As I said, I see the logic but changing age requirements beyond what they are won’t stop the bad stuff. It would just drive it more underground.

As soon as I got my red name the first time around, that was going to be my first mission - to get the age limit of gay chat raised to an 18+ room, thankfully I didn't even have to ask because along with the change in admin at the time, they changed the age requirement along with it which suited me, the majority of the mods and ******** alike just fine.

In saying that I think it depends on the rooms general topic....e.g. gay chat should be 18+ because it's adults finding themselves or wanting to meet other adults. Boys chat should be 13 - 18 because the word boys implies a non-adult male. Girls chat 13-18, lesbian 18+ etc
Not all rooms with a 13+ age limit have issues when adults mingle with young teenagers - they either don't talk or get along fine. You're more likely to find problems in 13 year old - 19 year old chats because typically there are no mature adults that would call out creepy behaviours.
