they're not a thing??? really???

not even going to entertain the rest of your reply, your argument no longer holds any water

There are five entries…. Five. Should we compare that to mass shootings in the UK? I’m not sure how you think that’s a comparable argument.

Did you even click on the links? I decided to look myself. Six entries (I miscounted before), 18 deaths. Hardly an epidemic. Once again, how does this even compare to mass shootings in the US? There have already been 8 victims of mass shootings this year and we’re six days into it…

I’ll await your response 🙂

weird, your argument was they dont happen, i just proved that they do how many entries there are is irrelevant to the fact that they happen

it all boils down to guns dont kill people, people kill people

im going back to bed now lmao

Digging a little deeper, there have been 14 mass shootings on the US in 2023 already, resulting in over 20 deaths. So six days into a year, your mass shoots already account for more victims than all the mass stabbings in my countries history.

People may kill people, but access to guns sure makes it easier, right? And seeing as you can’t make people illegal, maybe it’s smart to go after the firearms. That seems logical, right?

@SerenityMoon your pal bread has actually already disproven your statements about gun ownership increasing. You said that before and I made a rebuttal to it and your debate partner bread actually already proved your claim that that gun ownership has increased false. This is a debate, please refrain from just making things up.
Take that up with the FBI.
I've proven that strict gun reform laws would lead to less guns. I've also proven that less guns would equal less gun related deaths.
removing vehicles from the highway would save more lives. It would even be simpler to pass vehicle ban than a gun ban since Gun ownership is constitutionally protected and vehicles aren't. You aren't concerned with saving lives. You just want to be right in a debate.

What it boils down to is that it is not a gun problem. Like I've said numerous times in the past, It is a people problem. @babydolla is correct. If a person wants to kill, limiting their access to something is not going to stop them from killing. It is impossible to ban all things that can be used to kill. But it is possible to restrict lawful people from defending themselves from psychopaths intent on killing.

I've not read any of this thread but:

2A says: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

So let's break this down:

well regulated: Those arguing for guns don't want regulation so technically they're breaching the constitutional right they claim to want upheld

Militia, according to Oxford is "a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency."

the security of a free State: The gun lobby isn't arguing it's for the "security of a free State". Their best argument is self-defence against criminals. This isn't how 2a was written

American's have a constitutional right to bear arms, originally to prevent the need for an army. Here's my non-American ass thoughts on it:

1. Unless Rishi decided to screw Biden, we're not going to invade again

2. Gun owners aren't a 'militia' and certainly aren't well-regulated (not least because they don't want the regulation)

3. "Arms" doesn't mean guns. Get a baseball bat, a broom handle, or any other weapon of choice that isn't used by crazies to kill schoolchildren and other innocent people

Guns are bad. There is absolutely zero reason to have them in a civilised society. Ban the lot of them*, and that's my sensible post of the month done.

*Unless there's a threat of invasion, in which case, tool up and defend yourselves because it's not like America has the biggest armed forces in the world or anything

Spot On Senor .. And Well Put ...... Cept For The " Guns Are Bad " .... You Clarified The 2A Very Well As It Relates To The Applicability

Of The Current Mass Shooting Epidemic

But Your Summation "Guns Are Bad" Seems To Dismiss Your Prior Acumen In Relating The Applicability Of The 2A

You Could Say Human Violence Is The Worst Trait Of Humanity .... Nature Is Violent Wild Animals Are Violent

The Walmart Shooting Like The Others Is ....VIOLENCE OF THE INSANE And This Shiit Happening Now Is Unacceptable On Any

Perceptive Level ...

We Just Went Through A Lethal Viral Pandemic Killing More Than 6 Million Globally That Is Still Mutating And Evolving

Where We Had To Accept And Implement Really Horrible Living Conditions To Abate Death From A Killer Virus

Then We Should Do That Now For A Pandemic Of Mass Shootings . Intrusive Mental Health Interventions And Individual Evaluations

And Phuck The 2nd Amendment .... Legislate Massive Fire Arms Regulation And Control .

And Get The News Media Muted On These Events Don't Let The Shooters Get Up On Stage .

Treat It Like The CIA Does ... Deal With The Mother Phuckers Clandestinely

Extreme Action To Deal With An Extreme Lethal Epidemic

@SerenityMoon we're not talking about banning cars. I havent looked this up but i feel like i dont need to, but I'm sure that cars being used as murder weapons isn't really a prevalent issue. Thats like being pro-life because of r word pregnancies. You can't look at the extremely small number of cars being used a murder weapons and point to it saying "see its just like guns"

Cars are made to take a person from point A to point B. Can they be used as a murder weapon? Sure. but thats not what they were made for, and its extremely rare. Guns on the other hand were crated to hurt people, thats literally their only function.

Hi apples here you go, meet your new friend oranges.

The argument is about gun control. and I've proven that struct gun control laws would reduce the number of gun related deaths.

And yes I agree with Finn, it wouldn't be an issue if the US were more like the UK. The Uk doesn't have an epidemic of gun deaths. It is an actual fact that as many people will have died in an incident involving a gun by the end of today than in the whole of the UK all year.

The reason I keep repeating the same arguments is because these are the only arguments I need. And instead of proving them wrong you start talking about cars and stabbings. This debate isnt about cars or stabbings. its about strict gun control. and I've proven strict gun control would save American lives.

The level of patriotism thats blinding you is astounding. You both love America and its constitution so much that you're willing to let American people die. Thats backwards, redundant thinking.

This is literally what you sound like: "I love America and its constitution. In fact I love America so much that I'd rather see Americans die than change the words that were written on a piece of paper over 100 years ago"

@SerenityMoon and like I've stated numerous times, yes taking away guns wont stop the people who really want to kill, you're right. But I'd rather have a psychopath on the loose armed with a knife than a psychopath on the loose armed with a gun. Someone with a gun that intends to kill people can kill a large amount of people in an extremely short amount of time.

its like you don't even read what people say lol you skim over paragraphs and look for talking points. this entire "well taking away guns wouldnt stop the psychos" argument has been addressed and proven wrong several times over by this point. Would taking away stop psychos? No. But would it take the most dangerous weapon they can freely get their hands on? yes.

I agree. Say no more guns. I wished I lived in Australia. Does an Australia have no guns? I would love to go to a country that has no guns. I think New Zealand has no guns. I don't like guns. Guns have taking so many people's lives. It's truly sad.
Australia and New Zealand HAVE guns....so I think I can safely say on behalf of Aussies and Kiwis....We're full, fcuk off.

@Frombo I'll break this down Barney Style for you. You keep arguing that guns kill people and less guns would kill less people. Using your pervious "logic" and examples. Less vehicles would also save lives. Since your entire argument against guns is death from guns why would you deny that less vehicles would also mean less death? Unless I'm just missing your argument to regulate guns. If there were 45k deaths related to guns in 2020 and 40K deaths to vehicles in 2020 wouldn't you also want to lower the number of all deaths or are you just after guns?

🤣" Barney Style "

Wait .... WTF ...Coast Guard Armored Infantry ? .... Must Be The Coast Guard Designation For The USCG Armed Drug Intervention Units

I'm Curious At What The Content Of Posts In This Thread Will Be After The Next Horrific Mass Shooting Event .

@SerenityMoon I've never once made the argument that guns kill people and that less guns would kill less people. You are now putting words in my mouth to frame my argument in a certain light. I've made my argument very clear, multiple times.

It's strange that you would purposely twist "Less guns would lead to less gun related deaths" into a completely different sentence after I've said it so many times. I feel like this is happening because you aren't fully reading what I'm saying, and only looking at certain points before responding.

And I've already explained how the car argument is ridiculous but I'll do it again. It's unfortunate that car related deaths occur, but cars aren't made with the intention that one day it will be used to inflict bodily harm. They are made with the intention that it will be used to travel. Humans live in a time where we have the luxury of vehicular travel. So it's sad that people die in incidents involving cars, but the extremely small fraction of times that cars are used to purposely inflict death are so rare that its negligible.

Guns on the other hand are created with the intention that they will one day be used to inflict bodily harm. It is their sole use. A gun is a human luxury thats entire function is hurt another living creature. A car is human luxury thats entire function is to assist in traveling. There is a fundamental difference between a car and a gun. Comparing gun related deaths and car related deaths is a textbook example of comparing apples to oranges. Here I'll try summing up why this is a ridiculous argument as simply as possible.

Human A: "Gee I wish I should get from here over to there faster" *this is why cars were created*

Human B: "Gee I wish I should hurt that thing over there faster" *this is why guns were created*

Humans having the luxury of traveling faster and humans having the luxury of hurting things faster are two different things. And if you start including deaths from car accidents into a debate about gun control laws, then you can't ever really a discussion about gun control laws. That's why its ridiculous. Humans die in construction accidents, so we shouldn't build stuff. Humans die from bee stings, don't go outside. Human's die of heart attacks, no one should eat fast food. You could have used any of those previous arguments in place of your car argument. I'm also not sure if you realize this, but bringing up car related deaths in a gun control debate is actually admitting defeat because you are basically making the following argument: "I can't argue against any of your actual points so I'll just start bringing up the fact that people die in other ways all the time".

You can't make this argument in a gun control debate: "since people die in this way as well, lets just ban that too", because there is an almost never ending of number of ways a human can die and essentially you are saying just ban everything then if we're going to ban guns. It's a more nuanced version of the classic child's argument of taking things to absolute extremes to prove their point, "oh you want to enact strict gun control laws because of the reasons you just laid out for me? well we might as well just ban everything then". There isn't an actual argument in there, it's entirely baseless. The part where it says we might as well just ban everything then can replaced with thousands of different arguments, and none of them wouldn't mean anything. It's honestly like when a child uses the argument "Yeah you're sending me to my room? I'll just stay there forever".
