There are limitations to the the amount of qualifications and professionalism you can expect to see on ona place that staff's volunteer moderators.
This site relies on untrained volunteers. Every moderator should have these qualities:
• Fair, consistent kicking. Don't kick someone for longer than you kicked someone else for breaking the same rule. Unless the room you volunteer at has a strike system where kick time increases by the # of times you committed an offense in regards to that rule.
• Be aware of your own biases. Nobody is unbiased. We are humans after all. Don't assume bad intentions because of someone's past or let your friends get away with more than others.
• Reliability. Can you show up for the time and days you agreed to mod? Life gets in the way sometimes but do you put in the time you agreed to when life allows you to?
• Thick skin. The ability to handle criticism and the stresses of moderating without insulting others or freaking out.
• Growth mindset. Nobody is the best. Don't carry yourself like you can do no wrong. Always be willing to learn from others.
Some moderators have all of these qualities and are great volunteers. Other moderators don't have these qualities and they aren't the right fit.
Nobody expects moderators to have the same conflict resolution skills, the communication skills and the worth ethic of someone who is a trained, paid moderator for a social media site.
Edit: Elaborated on my point.
