I think the start of it was Night of the Living Dead, personally. Its the first movie to feature the main character an African American and an African American hero. You really get pissed off at the end.Not that many of us that remember or were around for the 70s but so many black centric movies like Shaft, Rounder, Blackula and Super FLy to name a few.
This paved the way for blacks to be featured in films instead of playing subordinate roles to white stars. Most of the movies were over the top but a lot of good memories.
I had read that too that Hattie did not get to attend the premier. I am not saying there were not strong black leads, including Sidney Poitier whose movie Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner was controversial because it was about inter racial romance. A lot of people in the US may not know but it was illegal until 1967. We have come a long way since then. But we do have forces in the US that want to push us back to before that time. Also don’t forget about In The Heat Of The Night with Sidney Poitier which cameout In 1968 I think. So many great pioneers and brave men and women who stood out in an industry dominated by white people for ages. Diversity begins somewhere. Hattie McDaniel who won an Academy Award for Gone With The Wind wasn’t allowed to attend the premier of the movie if I remember correctly.
We can’t let them push society backwards. There are those who would take your rights away, my rights away and we can’t let that happen. It starts at the ballot box. Gotta vote.I had read that too that Hattie did not get to attend the premier. That is what worries me. Those who support taking away civil rights will be more apt to go vote this following year. I am worried about having 2, 80 year old running against one another. For me the choice is obvious because the other one represents all which I consider evil.We can’t let them push society backwards. Also thoughts and prayers to those families in Maine that have been impacted by that mass shooting. They say it is not the guns its the people. We need to start being sane again.
