The very recent and ongoing spree killings going on in Lewiston Maine.
A P.O.I identified as Robert Carr and not just cause he was a firearms instructor. The most striking thing is he is fresh out of a two week stay at a psychiatric facility for threatening to do a mass shooting at an Army recruiter site.
First of all it is about the guns. The glaring miss was a dangerous man that has threatened violence and had mental health concerns.
Issue 1 mental health background checks are needed. If someone has been deemed dangerous by a certified mental health expert then all weapons should be taken away.

Issue 2 It is the guns. You can buy AKs for under a grand. Automated weapons exist to cause more damage and death. It is time to call for the end of automatic weapons except police, army etc could still have. The one REAL SOLUTION, ban automatic weapons in the US.
 
Unfortunately too many will say they need them to protect themselves against the government etc. but the rest of the world don't need guns to protect from anything. And those nations don't have the mass killings like this. Will take a lot more than taking weapons like AKs out of peoples hands

There was a guy in Kentucky who stated that he needed his Ak to kill Raccoons that was taking over his farm. His argument is valid if he is a lousy shot I guess. I do think there needs to be a way to take weapons away from people who have been deemed dangerous and a threat to others. That would be a start

It is interesting that people in Switzerland has more people that has funs per capita than the USA, and you do not hear about any mass shootings going on there, and that nutter in Maine should have had a all of his weapons taking away if he was at a mental health facility and threaten to shot people at an army recruiting site.

While it is true that you can own fully automated weapons in Switzerland it takes special permits to acquire them. Unlike America where anyone can purchase a fully automated weapon at anytime. If we had a special permit procedure it would lesson spree killings like in Maine. Mental Health providers said that the guy, correct name Robert Card was inpatient for 2 weeks due to threatening to kill people.
He is still out there. Rumor is that he is currently hiding out and employed as a relief mod in general chat.

He should have also been in jail for making terrorists threats, and you think he is on mod on General Chat here??
 
The Right were quick to dig up dirt on him and point out that he's a pedophile so gun laws would do nothing. Yeah, he was also mentally ill and on record saying he wanted to shoot up a military base. Not only that, he was hearing voices and released from the psychiatric care unit in the summer.

Maine only has a smaller amount of crime because it's so dense in Forrest and there aren't as many areas with loads of people. You don't need a permit to open carry so how would any police officer even know if you're legally allowed to? I guess that right to bare arms and open carry didn't stop the shooter, so much for that "a good guy with a gun kills bad guy with gun" defense, just like the Vegas shooting.

If it's the gun and not the person, then ban these people from owning them. You take away someone's right to drive when they get too many DUIs and are deemed a threat on the road, why not keep guns away from people who have the potential to harm others as well?

Commonsense gun laws needed . No one mentally ill and especially threatening to shoot people previous should have a gun

It's not a problem with illegal immigrants, this is a home grown terrorist problem and 9/10 times the shooter has been motivated by the propaganda and rhetoric of many on the left. All of his following on X were of conservatives including Trump Jr, Caturd, Jim Jordan, Elon Musk, etc which is why he banned and scrubbed the site of of the shopter within an hour but left the trans shooters up for nearly a week. The shooter is also a long time donor to the RNC.

So the shooter is US army and born and raised here, Your response is typical diatribe used by the extreme right. Everything is Biden's fault. This is why the country is so messed up. You and your kind want everyone else to think the same way you do. Trust me we won't.
You do know that the new house speaker wants to outlaw homosexuality right? They will take away your right to marry and turn the country where no one will speak of being gay.

Even if it is just mental health it is not sane policy to allow people who are a credible threat to others to amass a lot of weapons.
I also am tired of people saying thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of the victims. How many people have to die? If someone broke in and shot up Congress I bet you would see some sane gun laws. You know how easy it is to buy an automatic weapon? Just takes slightly under a grand. I mean if they ask you for a reason you want to buy it and then type so I can shoot everyone in my old high school the vendor would still sale them the gun.

I totally agree with you, actually needs to be taken. In some states, you could literally walk to the store and purchase a gun like that.

None of that will happen with the new speaker of the house and they caught dozens of people on the terrorists watch list this year and about a million people came over without knowing who they are. Wait and see we will regrettably have a terrorist act based on someone who came here illegally/

You are just gaslighting. I asked you why you support such rhetoric? It makes no sense. I am guessing you are not a lesbian or gay or trans. Because if you were you should be concerned about hard fought rights gained by gays and lesbians et al. Mr Johnson has made the statement that gays and lesbians will cause the downfall of our democracy. I support gay marriage. Too bad we got a Supreme Court just itching to overturn it.
 
@Rachel_NY Huh? The shooter wasn't an immigrant and had nothing to do with immigrants. In fact none of the major mass shootings I remember off the top of my head were done by immigrants. You know what a fair portion of them did have in common? They could have easily been stopped by a required background check and mental health history check that should have been required for the legally purchased weapons that were used.

Also I'm not sure how the House Speaker was brought up, but this man seems to have no intention to fix any real problems. Only his imaginary ones, such as people who aren't straight cis white Christian males having rights.
