Very sad news that Dickie Betts passed away today at the age of 80. Betts was a co-founder of the incredible southern rock group The Allman Brothers Band. He wrote several of their biggest songs including Ramblin’ Man, Blue Sky, and Jessica.
He was an amazing guitarist and influenced several generations of guitar players. He definitely influenced me. Here’s a quote from him when he was asked what he loved most about music:
“I like the crowds mainly, and what the music did for them. They got more out of the music than I did. … I just really get a kick out of the audience and how they could just kind of drift away to another world in a concert.”
