Its thursday night.
Im fiending for a monster. I go to wallyworld to stock up. I grab my **** and am ready to go checkout. I stood in line waiting for the next open register (self checkout). Mm browsing forums on my phone when the young lass in charge proceeds to eyefuck my 6ft tall confirmed self and tells me register 1 is open. I look up and proceed to walk to the register. As i arrive I immediately notice there is a $20 bill hanging under the "cash deposit" thingy where you pay with cash. My brain immediately concocts about 1000 different scenarios in a span of 2 seconds. I immediately cancel all my thinking and think about how much better my righteous morality is than $20. I immediately reach for the $20 bill with my right hand and pull out a wad of cash with my left hand. I turn around and give the young lass the $20 and tell her someone left it at the register. The lass kind of looks at me confused but didnt really say anything. She just stands there. I dump in a $50 grab my **** and check out.

As i walk out I start to get doubtful. Not about my actions but about the questionable response of the lass. I start to doubt that she will do the right thing and pocket it instead.

I immediately call to report it to a M.O.D but customer service doesnt exist in 2024.

What should i do? Should i not have been such an honest admirable person? What should i have done differently?

lol

This reminds me of a situation I was dealing with in 2018.

I had gone with friends to watch a movie and after the movie I found $80.00 cash on the floor on my way out

I went to the cashier's desk to report it and they said "we can take it from you, and wait for someone to claim it" and in my head I said hail to the no, how do I know you won't keep it?

So long story short I went to the police station and handed it in - state law says if no one claims after 3 months the money's yours

3 months came and wallah I inquired and they said nah no one claimed it, it's yours.

3 weeks later I get a cheque for $80.00.

lol I mean 80 bucks is 80 bucks

Nothing you should have done nothing differently. You cannot control what others do, what they do is on their conscience (although many these days seem to be void of one). You can only hope to influence behaviour by being a good example.

Banks are supposed to help people and make our lives better—but that’s a complete lie in my experience. My previous bank was nothing like that at all, and dealing with them was a constant headache. Now, I’m trying to communicate with bcb bank customer service to see if they might actually be better at keeping my money safe and providing the support I need. I’m cautiously optimistic, but if anyone has experience with them, I’d love to hear if they’re truly reliable or if it’s just more of the same
