This thread relates to rooms that are marketed as for ages 13+ and also have a dice game.

Since the virtual currency used to play with can be obtained using legal tender, the game is equivalent to gambling for money.

Moderators can play in main rooms and the results - including losses and earnings - are displayed for everyone to see.

To the best of my knowledge, no age verification is required when creating an account or setting your age, making a policy of limiting dice rolls to certain ages pointless.

I'm not claiming this problem is unique to Chat Avenue, but it is certainly normalizing, and potentially glamorizing, the concept of gambling to minors.

How do you feel about chat avenue:-
  1. exposing minors to gambling?
  2. allowing them to take part?
P.S: I won't comment on the relevant legalities, but if anyone has knowledge in this area I'd be interested to hear.

If it wasn't allowed or against the gambling laws in certain part o
@TheDifference slot machines are designed to be simple and fun, that doesn't mitigate the moral issues with letting children use or be exposed to them at all.

On the issue of normalising... if a minor sees adults engaging in certain behaviours, they may be less likely to see them as an issue as they grow up. This can significantly contribute to the big gambling issues in society you mentioned earlier.

You do realize that they sell mini slot machines for kids to win gum right and use money?

Yes gum but gives kids the idea how it works. Should we start emailing those companies about how bad it is?

that’s why adults should be educating/supervising their kids.

A child sees everything every adult does and copies everything thinking it’s good/funny even more so when told off. They’ve already seen it. however a teenager in a chatroom should be a bit more wise to what’s right and what isn’t.

The dice game is not equivalent to a true gambling machine.
You're missing the point. I'm refuting your argument that "It’s a simple game for fun. Not really a moral or ethical stance needed here."

Millions of people gamble without becoming addicted to it.
Just because the normalisation issue doesn't affect everyone, that doesn't mean it's not doing damage.

The difference here is that you don't lose money. This isn't gambling at all.

I can appreciate a vending machine, but giving a slot machine to a kid is a bit weird nonetheless.

I think it's reasonable for a parent to assume that a chat room marketed as for ages 13+ will not have a gambling function built in.

A child sees everything every adult does and copies everything thinking it’s good/funny even more so when told off. They’ve already seen it. however a teenager in a chatroom should be a bit more wise to what’s right and what isn’t.
I'm not sure it's fair to expect a 13 y/o to appreciate how addictive gambling can be, and especially how easy it is to lose a lot of money. That's why there are age restrictions on gambling.

jesus ... one of the new hire requirements "must be void of brains"...

Alfie has to be at least twice Lego's age. and has been rolling around here before half the site was even a twinkle in their momma's eyes.*

* reading more into this than you should will produce nothing. you're still an ass.

I've not seen the new dice game. if actual money is used to buy coin only to use in game , which in turn is used to win prizes, it very much reaks of online gambling. HOWEVER, if you get so many free coins to play every day/month there would be no gambling. it would be free gaming. prizes would have to be additional free coins in game rewards no outside payout system, sure user could buy ADDITIONAL coins but user would then go into it knowingly with intention to buy coins for the game, regardless of age, leaving the site free of responsibility because the argument could be had that the coin only work for the game, so user knew it was going from game to gambling.

I didn’t miss it. You were trying to compare the dice game here to a slot machine and I was simply saying there really is no comparison.

The dice game here is something simple and fun that users can play without having to pay any real money or risk any real money. It’s not gambling in the true sense of the word. That’s my view and yours is different than mine and that’s ok. I appreciate you having a civil discussion about it. 👍🏻

As I said before, no I wasn't. I was "refuting your argument that "It’s a simple game for fun. Not really a moral or ethical stance needed here."" In other words, I was pointing out that just because it's simple and fun, that doesn't make it okay. The slot machine was used to make a general point, not as a comparison with the dice game.

I appreciate the civil discussion as well.

Let's be honest if somebody is getting addicted to s.hit avenue dice rolls they deserve to lose their money no matter the age of the user. I was wise enough to not waste my money on wasteful crap when I was 8 years old so don't give me, they are not old enough to know better, then if that's the case their parents have done a terrible job raising them properly, s.hit avenue is good at making money off morons so let them keep it.

If you have no sense to not gamble and not waste money that is on you no matter the age, let's stop giving these people excuses, let's start admitting they are just moronic and have no sense when it comes to money

interesting concept- chat darwinism

Taking Personal responsibility? More people should do that.
