Losing my job of 3 years.

I wanted to update everyone to why I haven't been around much and why I resigned from being a Mod in Girls Chat...

I'm struggling emotionally and just trying to keep my head above water... At the beginning of this month I was told that the Build a Bear location I have been at for 3 years, will be closing at the end of the month due to low traffic. It was my first job, something I was very attached to and am struggling to figure out what's next because it hasn't fully processed. Sunday was our last day of business, Monday, everything started getting packed and today (Wednesday) the store is just a shell of what it used to be. I have cried so much but also tried to be emotionally there for my coworkers, but I need comfort...

I am heartbroken.
I need patience, love, and a friend.

Sorry if not my place to comment here but
I wish you well
I know it's hard but you will find a Job again you will love just as much
you sound like a caring person
Remember good times are ahead even if it doesn't seem that way.
Stay strong you got this 🌼 🌸

take the good things from this job and take it to the next. also build on what you didn't like about the job and avoid those ones. (it doesn't seem like it is but) if it was one of those throw away jobs " I'll have it for a few months then quit" and you like your co-workers see where they went, there possibly might be a job opening there. seems like you liked many things of the job and with your background in retail it shouldn't be too hard to find another. some find it easier to decompress, wait a week or two then find a job. some cant do that and need one lined up to start the next day. I know the big retailers (target, Walmart) are hiring for temp- through the holidays type of job. and that might be good for cash flow and to keep you busy until your ready to commit to something else.

Possum, I’m sorry to hear this it’s never easy when a job comes to an end especially when it’s through no fault of your own. Not familiar with US employment laws when it comes to business closure/inadvertent layoffs, but is there something in place? I mean is there a payout or anything as it’s through no fault of your own or length of service etc, to tide you over until something comes along?

Do try keep positive again it’s easier said than done. If you are financially comfortable can this be a timeout for your wellbeing? Surmising as I don’t know your personal life and that’s private. But there’s no shame in seeking assistance, 3 years and 1st job or not, you’ve contributed so make sure to get your entitlement.

Best of luck and keep positive!

You're so sweet thank you. I am actively looking, and grateful to be financially ok to take a short break for now. I'm thinking about maybe even going back to school to pursue education as a career. My favorite thing about the job was the connections I made along the way. I think I need to do something that's actively helping someone in a big way. That's how I want to live my life.

That’s definitely a positive on your side in this situation being financially ok! If education is what you aspire go for it. I’m sure you’ve educated many customers and believe me when I say they are the #1 banned c word of this planet, so you’re already established! 👍

Keep in contact with your connections of able doesn’t need to be everyday but it least gives you positive thoughts rather than letting the situation take over. Just take time for you also!

I am a big proponent of going to school. They will be always hiring teachers. You can specialize in whatever grades, ages or specialized subjects. I taught remedial reading for 3 years in Elementary school. I loved my small class sizes, one year I had one student in the first grade. Go for your dreams, life is about that.

I'm looking forward to a vacation later in November. Retail is not for the faint of heart, I think I've earned it. I'll definitely stay in touch with my coworkers , they brought so much joy to me. On our last day I read a homemade book that I wrote about them and everyone was so touched.

I think going back to school to pursue education would do you good, especially with how good you are around children (considering your old job). I wish you well, and hope you find a happy work place again! It’s hard to come by. I’ve never been attached to my work places. I move around a lot and usually I’m excited for new adventures and meeting new people and different settings.

Regardless, adding to your resume is always a good thing. You’re going to do great things, and the time will pass whether we want it to or not - so why not learn something and peruse higher education. ♥️

I have a interview next week for a position I'd really like as an after-school teacher for special needs kids. I hope my Chat Ave family is sending good vibes !

Positive vibes sent from me and best of luck.

As for your other goals you mentioned, take them in moderation don’t unintentionally and often unknowingly burn yourself out trying to achieve goals. As you also said patience is key. People like you I wish the best for! 😊

I’m a bit young to be offering career advice, never having held an actual job and only studying to show so far in my life, but I have been through adversity.

First with my Addison’s diagnosis, then with my anaplastic astrocytoma. Major changes in life can really knock you off your feet. You seem to have a good plan, though: keeping busy and trying new things to keep your mind occupied and active throughout the transition period.

You’ll be fine and sure to find something else you love and enjoy. Work to your strengths and look for work that will be enjoyable for you again. I just know you’ll be fine.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

I am wondering if the interview has been had or am I week too early? I always think when one door closes another door opens to a whole new world, treasure your time out and then face things with a brighter thoughts and feelings! Good luck!

Sending all the luck! I think it's always best to look at these things as an opportunity - it's very easy to get stuck in a rut & do the same thing forever but you're still young enough to do whatever you want to do. ❤
