As some of you might now, I often alternate between having long hair and medium long hair. I’m looking for advice on keeping my hair looking healthy and less greasy. Also curious to know if there are certain ingredients in shampoos that can speed up my hair growth. I’m currently using a natural shampoo made from essential oils: rosemary oil, tea tree oil, ylang ylang oil, lavender oil, coconut oil and shea butter. I also take a vitamin B complex just in case.

Is it advisable to wash your hair every day or every other day? My experience is that, if I go one day without washing it, it’s usually very greasy, so I tend to wash my hair every day. Also: should I stick with one shampoo? I currently alternate between using two shampoos.

Thanks in advance.

You’re doing great with natural ingredients and vitamins! Washing daily can lead to more oil production, so try every other day with dry shampoo in between. Switching shampoos is fine if both work for you. Gentle scalp massages might also help with growth!

I don't know but I remember when you were called Hagrid. Please stick with the Hagrid look

Thanks

To maintain healthy, less greasy hair while alternating between long and medium lengths, focus on washing less frequently, using a clarifying shampoo occasionally, choosing products for oily hair, and incorporating scalp massages; while some research suggests certain shampoo ingredients like biotin and niacinamide may promote hair growth, the most reliable way to support growth is through a balanced diet and managing stress.

Consuming biotin, iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin D is beneficial from what I have read. I could be wrong.

Good evening sir, it's good to see you want to have different lengths in your hair and changing it up. I myself haven't gotten a full haircut in almost 2 years. My hair is down to the middle of my back lol. I recommend using hair oil. I use B12 and vitamin E oil. Don't wash your hair everyday bc it causes your hair to be very greasy and oily (yuck). I avoid heat products as well. I use head and shoulders bc it has all the healthy ingredients. I'd recommend using conditioner every time and leave it in your hair for a few minutes then wash it out. I hope this makes sense and helps. -Have a wonderful night

To add to this i also use black castor oil. I use my hair oils 2-3 times a week. If you do it too often it will make your hair and scalp really oily.

including my own ..lol..I am a natural brunette..I shampoo every other day and brush often ..never dyed my hair..

Hello, if you have them too often it will be counterproductive.

In fact, I'm very particular about the condition of my hair. I invest a lot of money in keeping it perfect. Currently, I find a lot of useful information here Pharmacy B2B, both on what works best for my hair and on the usual health issues. I find it a pretty convenient and quick way to get the info I need.

You’re clearly being thoughtful and intentional about your hair care, which is great. Let’s break this down into a few key points based on your questions and current routine:

🧴 1. Shampooing Frequency: Every Day vs Every Other Day

Your question: Is it advisable to wash hair every day if it gets greasy quickly?

Short answer: Daily washing can be okay, but it depends on the shampoo and your scalp’s natural oil production. Greasiness is often a result of your scalp overcompensating for oils being stripped away a common side effect of daily washing with even natural shampoos.

Tips:
  • Try slowly transitioning to every other day washing. Start with dry shampoo or rinsing with just water on “off” days to help train your scalp.
  • If your scalp adapts, oil production may balance out in 1–3 weeks.
  • If you must wash daily, use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo (which it sounds like you already do).

🌿 2. Ingredients and Hair Growth

You’re using a shampoo with:
  • Rosemary oil – Evidence-backed for stimulating circulation and potentially promoting hair growth (some studies suggest it’s as effective as minoxidil over time).
  • Tea tree oil – Helps cleanse the scalp and can reduce dandruff.
  • Ylang ylang oil & lavender oil – Soothing for scalp, may reduce inflammation or stress-related hair fall.
  • Coconut oil & shea butter – Good for moisturizing and strengthening the hair shaft.
Verdict: Excellent ingredient profile for scalp health, which is essential for hair growth. No ingredient will speed up growth dramatically (which is genetically limited), but these can help optimize conditions for healthy, strong hair.

Also, your vitamin B complex supports overall hair health — especially biotin (B7), B12, and B6.

🔁 3. Alternating Shampoos: Good or Bad?

It’s totally fine to alternate between two shampoos, especially if they:
  • Serve slightly different purposes (e.g., one more clarifying, one more moisturizing).
  • Are both gentle and don’t contain harsh sulfates or silicones.
This can help prevent your scalp from “getting used to” one formula or developing buildup from one product over time.
