So when a teen chatter has an issue but doesn’t want to talk to an adult mod about it, what do they do?? Think about that, we need teen mod in girls so when problems like that happen, they have someone there age to talk to
That's a good point. Maybe the moderation team could be split — half adults, half teens. Or, alternatively, CM could implement a filter for reports: if the report involves adult sexual content, it should automatically go to the adult moderators. Issues that can be handled by teen mods without exposing them to harmful situations could be dealt with by them directly.

In the case of private message reports, the system could ask whether the content involves CP before proceeding. If it does, the report would be automatically redirected to the adult mods through the filter.

Something like that would already make a big difference. If CM really wanted to fix this, he could.

Hmm... why do you think that?
Like just strolling Insta for example, cheap AI generated things of real people become more and more real looking every day. Especially when it comes to photos, I get "suggested" people to follow who look totally real but are in fact just an AI. With voice? Ask Joe Rogan, there are full blown audio podcasts out there of "him" that he never made. Those AI fights between Trump and Biden? Sound totally real but never happened lol

Once people invest more and more into that, it will get more and more lifelike.

I see and hear plenty of CHEAP AI that could pass a sound or picture test. Imagine what expensive ones can do?

Also, asking a minor to video chat with me so they can "verify" just to enter the room is something I would never ever do, thats not appropriate whatsoever.

True dat.
And it's a complicated issue.

Mandy posted something interesting in another thread here earlier - about the legalities of minors being given responsibility and mod roles.

scientific facts - the human brain is not fully wholly developed until around the age of ~25.
and furthermore, I might get a little irked if a teen tried to moderate me in adult chat.
It goes without saying that teenagers should not be on adulchat, anyway.

I completely understand. See why I value open dialogue?

It’s important that you share your perspective here too, so people can realize this situation isn’t as simple as it may seem. As an Admin and an experienced, long-time member of the community, you have much more insight on this than most people here.

It’s easy for someone to judge you for having underage moderators without trying to understand why you actually need them — or realizing that even as an Admin, you don’t have superpowers. Everything has its reasons and context.

From what I’ve understood so far, it’s important for younger members to have moderators close to their age, because they feel more comfortable with them. Likewise, adult moderators are also essential, because adult users feel more at ease talking to someone older.

So what’s the real issue here? The risk of minors being exposed to CP? That’s a valid discussion, because it’s a real and serious problem. But after hearing your explanation, I don’t see it as your fault — just as I don’t see anything wrong with people wanting to debate this dilemma in a respectful way.
In the end, maybe it really is a problem without a clear solution.

Its for sure a complicated issue and I think I dont think there is a real clear solution. Which sometimes in this life there just isnt. We just do the best we can 🙂

Your last point, which obviously is beyond valid, can happen anywhere. Not just here, not just on the internet, but simple group chats on social media or even video games.

A few years back I had made friends in a game called Ark. Its a truly massive social game where you interact with possibly thousands of people. Anyway, my group met another group, started up a group chat within the Playstation Network and someone from that other group send material of that nature (Obviously we reported and they got in severe trouble). Point being, it can happen anywhere.

What is the solution? Im not sure as I stated above. What I can say though is we take it very seriously across this site. People are reported to the police a lot and with that I must also state Chat Avenue is not the police. We can only do so much.

I think the young mods are killing it. Pinky is whip smart. It’s unfortunate that she has to deal with the internet as is, but, she calls things for what they are. I’ve never had any interaction with AussieFifi because I don’t ever go in girls chat. But. Her unending stream of positivity on forums is nice to see. 🤷🏽‍♂️. I don’t see the issue. .

I don’t doubt that, girl. I just hope it’s clear to everyone now.
I was able to understand your side — and I hope others can too.

I am very proud to have a Girls Chat Team of ALL GIRLS... That's the way it should be... As long as they are at least 17... It's about girls' safety. Besides, girls mature before boys, and obviously more than the men that show up in our room. Rock on girls!

I appreciate the mature dialogue more than I can express 🤣🤣

Its an important and sensitive topic for sure. And while Im just some random person out here in the internet ocean, Ive been around Chat Avenue going on 13 years now and I do truly stand by my words we are all trying.

A lot of times there are situations where you hit a dead end, try a new path just to wind up at another dead end or by the time you get 5 stops down the road, you realize you made 4 left turns are right back where you started 🙂

I guess my point is Im proud of the community the way it stands. We have different rooms for different content. Content not suitable for one room is dealt with, its why we mod. When nefarious things happen, we will handle it. None of this was a go at you or putting words in your mouth 🙂

Don't worry, girl. It's all good.

Girls chat is more of a community than anything else. It’s a chatroom yes. I’ve been to several of the rooms and ours is completely different. It should be up to the owner and his admins who the mods of the rooms are. Our Admin knows every user in the room, she’s aware of everything that goes on. She’s been around for awhile so when it comes to decisions for the room. I believe she’s 💯 got that handled. Any of the gross things that we see as Mods, are sent to the user first and foremost. They’re the ones that report…so..no matter your age you are liable to see the filth that we have to deal with regardless if you’re in the room. The maturity and personalities are really what matters. The room is 13+ so it is fair that there are younger mods. It helps the users feel comfortable coming to one of them verses one of us. Also, we mod as a team, and we all know if there was a problem we usually aren’t there alone. Both of our younger mod’s do a fantastic job, and they don’t let anyone walk over them. I’m for sure proud of em and happy to be apart of it.

Thanks for that well thought out and articulated post.

I can see both the pros and cons of having -18 staff. I agree that -18 staff can bring energy and fun and may be more in tune with what is currently going on in the -18 world and culture. I also think many -18 chattters feel more comfortable talking to -18 staff about problems they may be experiencing in the room. Those are definitely pros.

For me, some of the cons are that there are some extremely disturbing content the room staff have to deal with. I don’t think it’s good for the -18 staff to have to deal with that. Especially cp. Additionally, there are some disturbing people that staff have to deal with. Some -18 staff may not have the life experience or emotional development to deal with those type of people.

So for me, it is incredibly important that the room admin do a very thorough job of vetting any -18 mod candidate before giving them that responsibility. And not only that, but they need to insure that they provide adequate, ongoing support for that moderator and should do regular check-ins to assess how that -18 staff is doing and make sure that their mental and emotional health is not being negatively affected.

(Before the -18 come after me with torches and pitchforks, I think the above is important to do for all staff, not just -18) ✌🏻
Your courage is admirable @TheDifference
