2hr kick for having a conversation

I think recognised WorkingFromH0me from a meme app I use. I asked if he was from that app, and joe34 replied to me asking “What is [insert app name]?” I replied to joe34 saying “It’s a meme app with chats.” I looked away for a min and when I looked back at chat I was kicked for max kick time. I was so confused, then I read the thing saying “Promoting another site.”
Do you know what promotion is? I asked a question, and I answered a question. General chat mods just kick people with any sort of overreach of a reason, cause they think it’s funny.

Now that I’m thinking about it, HoneyBadger or whatever his name is said a couple weeks ago that he recognised me from a website before. And I asked him if his name was ZiGG on that site. He denied it and we continued to go back and forth about his identity on this other site. I wasn’t kicked then, nor was he kicked for bringing it up. So why is this two sentence conversation about a meme app now labeled as promotion of another site, and is punished with a max kick, when a previous and much longer conversation (to the point where it was an argument) wasn’t treated the same?

You were having a discussion regarding another chat site, this is promoting. It is not allowed.

@TheLeigh since this is regarding Gen Chat.

Promoting would be:
“Hey everyone! Come join [app name], it’s a super fun meme app with chat rooms! Way better than this useless site. My username is @[user] on there if you want to add me.”

I answered a question neutrally. There was no advertising. Is promoting to you ANY mention of another site?

There are many forms of promotion, so yes in this case, you spoke to another user about another chat site, then answered details about said chat site after that user inquired. This is a form of promoting and thus you were actioned for it accordingly. Hope this helps.

Hi @melaninwaifu -

@Drock already covered most of it, but just to follow up - having the entire conversation in the main room isn’t allowed. Those kinds of discussions should always be taken to PMs, however you’re encouraged to not share socials, or any other potentially identifiable information, for safety reasons.

Also, even if it’s not direct, veiled advertising is still considered advertising. Talking about exchanging/asking for socials in main while mentioning that said site “has chats” can easily come across as promotion, which could end up resulting in a room ban.

Please be sure to read the room rules if you haven’t yet. If you have any further questions, feel free to DM me.
