I'm going to stop using YōuTube for a month

I've had a problem with being chronically online for years. YōuTube is pretty much the last thing that has had me glued to my screen for hours since deleting Discord, and I'm tired of wasting my life away. I really want to focus on my hobbies without constantly procrastinating on them because I opened the YōuTube app. Starting tomorrow, I'm staying off of YōuTube for a whole month. I'll still be online, but far less than before since YōuTube has caused me to waste several hours of my life a day. This means that I'm going to be getting several hours back.

Words of encouragement would be appreciated since I've never done this before and I don't know how my mental health is going to be impacted by this. I don't have any friends, and YōuTube has been a big source of distraction from that and other negative things. I'll be posting updates every day, so stay tuned, I guess.

Well I just watched my last YōuTube video for this month. I hope I can cope without them tomorrow. lol

Get yourself out of the house and maybe find a job or a voluntary position.
And why is MH ALWAYS an excuse now days.
I mean, I'm doing those things. I'm taking steps to improve my situation. Yes, I struggle with both depression and autism. That's not something that is just going to magically go away with your insulting comment.

Edit: It's getting too late for me to argue with you further. I'm going to bed.

I was going to use this thread for daily updates to hold myself accountable, but now I'm not so sure I should because I feel like I'm just being judged here.

I'm still going to stay off YōuTube, but maybe using a private journal would be better.

You’ve got this. I’m on a similar path. I even went so far as to delete the app on my screen so that I had to actually use the internet to go to the site.

Being aware that many of the social media apps on the web were designed purposefully to be addictive is half the battle.

Enjoy your time off the web. You only live once, and every hour you spend doing real life stuff will be much more gratifying in the end than doom scrolling for a thumb workout.

Cheers.

i only exist on the internet, im a being of light that communicates through fibre optic wires basically like a ghost ✨

Thank you for your kind words. The first couple of days will probably be the toughest for sure, but I'll remind myself how binging videos all day ends up making me feel. Hopefully once I get back to YōuTube next month, I won't feel tempted to spend more than an hour on it. If I do, I'm dropping it for another month. lol

I finished a book. I just pulled out another. I finally have a reason to actually read the stuff on my bookshelf now. lol

I think this book has something to do with gay s*x, so that's neat.

Day 1 has been completed. I actually only struggled earlier in the day before 3 PM, so it wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be.

I'm actually looking forward to reading more of this book.

Hey everyone! I have some thoughts related to this subject. To start, Y0utube is easy to procrastinate on, as the algorithm tailors video recommendations to yourself interest. With that in mind, I recommend the following:
• Turn off watch history.
• Install plugins that block distracting elements on ******* such as the comments section, video recommendations, etc.

Remember, y0utube isn't inherently bad. Rather, it's a tool that when used correctly can enrich your life. For example, on ******* you can access high quality lectures or tutorials on various topics.

Going cold turkey works for some people, others need to ween themselves off. Oftentimes, overcoming a bad habit such as excessively Y0utube involves enduring temporary discomfort. Over time, you'll find your cravings to use Y0utube decrease. Moreover, we often develop bad habits because we're missing something in our lives. For instance, a person without relationships may become parasocially attached to Y0utubers. Of course, "drowning out" your bad habit with a variety of different activities can be beneficial!
