Age Requirement

I think that rooms that have an age limit, especially 13+, should make it mandatory that anyone, before creating an account, guest or member, post their age.

I can't tell you how many times someone has shown up in Girls Chat asking to private chat with an underage girl, and the Admin or Mod asks how old they are and they say they're in their 20s or much older. Gross!

I understand that some rooms may not care so much about that, but if there are 'kids' in rooms, anyone logging in should have to show their age, or the log-in process won't complete. Like when you do something online, like a job application or something, you have to fill in the blank to proceed, right? It's common sense.

I know what you're thinking, "they will just lie about it anyway so what's the point?". The point is, if they tell the truth, staff can see it, or if they're caught lying, they can still be kicked or banned. It's all about the safety of minors.

It would be nice if gender and location were made mandatory as well, but that's a different issue I suppose.

The point is the 'safety' of minors. What do you think?

Keep smiling 🙂

That’s what I meant GENIUS!!!! You just said you’re old anyway lol. Either way if you’re talking to a minor you’d be banned since you’re allegedly 74.5
Nah, a minor is too minor, I need a nice grizzly, 32 year old Scottish man, with nice pecs. Duno where I might find that tho. HAHAHA!

Boys Chat already has exactly what you’re asking for

Maybe @maiseymac could apply the same to Girls Chat but it’s a complete waste of time.

Will it stop pedos? No!

The worst of them, who are a real threat, will pretend to be younger to gain the trust of minors.

Forcing an age to be entered could make it easier for pedos. At least when they enter without an age, people can be sceptical of them.

People will always find a way around it, unfortunately. Pervs are persistent. I think the younger users would also lie to seek older too.

Thankfully most- if not all rooms, have a strong dedicated mod team to do the lions share of the investigating. And really, that’s the most effective tool we have in protecting minors and allowing for as safe a chat environment as possible.

Many of you seem fixated on a person's ability to lie, and yes a lot do and that is sad. I know the Admins and Mods do such great jobs and deserve all of our support but I just help but think, 'why not go an extra step?'. I understand that it's difficult to keep the pervs out but shouldn't there be some extra effort made and whatever tools used to ensure that children are safe? Even if they seem fleeting, no one can say we didn't try.

For your thoughts, Id say @Inkandtatts gave you the best answer. PM Amaisey here or in the room and see what happens. She being admin, shes the one who could possibly request this feature to be added.

Again, I think your heart is certainly in the right place, but in my opinion the chances it stops anything from happening is slim to none.

Thank you for your comment! Since your post relates to "all rooms" you might find this noteworthy " https://www.chat-avenue.com/privacy.html" there is a section that mentions how this site requires minimal private information in order to being chatting here, (such as for guest accounts). The site advertises/offers that it stringently guards users privacy, and requires minimal info for users to chat here, while at the same time keeping the rooms as safe for users as possible. (via moderation staff and other safeguards)

An adult chatting with a minor doesn't always rise to predation.
I'd be willing to place odds, especially in General Chat, that the majority of those claiming to be 13 yo girls are in fact older males that pose as young girls for what ever their reasons are. I don't know the legalities of this. But I do understand the ability, given the tools mods are given to police such things are very limited, and kicking someone for speech on an accusation isn't good policy.

Thanks, but the policy does not specifically address the issue at hand. My post relates to rooms that are 13+. Nevertheless, it would seem nothing will be done so you can close this whilst I reevaluate whether or not Chat Ave is really the place for me.

Please close this post. Thank you.

What that really means is, "we (the site) don't ask for very much personal info to start chatting here" (this might-IN PART- explain why not all accounts have to display an age on the pfp)

Rooms already have (as Inks showed) a set up where users state an age. There is no way to verify ages beyond what the user claims, guest accounts are relatively anonymous and temporary, and registered accounts can be deleted by users. Like Karina said, no one doubts your sincere concerns. Don't give up on suggesting things though-site owners do read this forum, and changes can and do happen on various matters. It's a good site- hope you stay involved! Be patient, persevere 🙂
