Baby boxes: Compassion or Cruelty

Why is it societally acceptable to give up your child at birth through means of dumping your baby anonymously through a baby box?

Proponents argue that baby boxes provide a safe and anonymous option for mothers who are unable or unwilling to care for their newborns.

These boxes, often found at hospitals or fire stations, allow parents to surrender their infants without fear of prosecution.

But society say it's not okay for you to dump a grown child away.

In most jurisdictions, the act of giving away a grown child without following proper legal procedures is considered illegal and can result in severe consequences for the individuals involved.

From an ethical perspective, abandoning a child without any consequences undermines the importance of parental responsibility. It sends a message that it is acceptable to simply discard one's responsibilities rather than seeking help.

If child abandonment laws exist to protect the welfare and best interests of children. Then why are these laws ignored when the child is a newborn?

It just enables abandonment without accountability. Change my mind.

Why did you underscore unwilling? It seems that your whole premisse is one of disingenuity. You assume in advance that people have nefarious motives as to why they choose to abandon their child, which I consider a collective ad hominem attack. You can’t generalize. In some cases a child is conceived from r**** or a child is conceived in dire poverty and the parents didn’t receive a proper education as a result of their economic circumstances, which leads them to make unwanted or uninformed life choices. Also, in a lot of religious communities, sexual education is still seen as a taboo and people are brainwashed into believing that intercourse should be merely focused on reproduction instead of pleasure. People don’t learn about contraceptives such as is the case in the American Bible Belt, populated by hicks, rednecks and evangelicals.

You can’t always blame the individual. A lot of the time it is a socio-cultural and political problem stemming from a lack of financial resources and education.

Because if those aren’t available, the baby ends up deposited in public places wrapped in a blanket or worse, and dead

It’s a compromise. Save a baby’s life in exchange for not prosecuting the mother. I’d say that’s a reasonable compromise

Are you pro life or pro choice?

Just because you don't have a womb doesn't mean you don't have a brain and aren't entitled to an opinion. For example I am not LGBTQIA and I have my opinion about that group.

Maybe you just don't want to state whether you are pro life or pro choice because you know it's hypocritical to the statement you just made prior.

I hate kids, so I don't really care either way. But I would say it would be better for a newborn baby to be left on somebody's doorstep that might actually look after it decently. otherwise, they would probably grow up to be a druggie like its mother or father.

Or maybe your motivation for asking the question want to gaslight with leading questions to elicit an answer you expect (most likely with a pre-drafted reply), so you can cause an internet argument because you have nothing better to do.

Just maybe.

Perhaps ... A Baby In A "Baby Box" Is A Better Scenario Than A Prom Nite Dumpster Baby In A Dumpster .....

...but let's not make this thread about me.

For anyone reading this thread, this was the original topic:

Although it it terrible that it happens, the alternative is worse. Babies in dumpsters or bathroom waste bins.

You can't be pro life if you aren't pro life till the child can take care of themselves and take responsibility for their own actions.

Infant Abandonment Is Really What This Is About ...

Any Infant Can Be Given Up For Adoption By The Mother In The Hospital At The Time Of Birth And Without Any Legal Or Moral Issues ..

Mom Is Doing That For Her Baby As An Option To Raising That Child On Her Own For Whatever Reason ..

If The Baby Is Better Off Adopted (Sad As That Is) .. Then So Be It ....

But Any Woman Abandoning Her Infant Child Anonymously In A Public Place To All The Dangers That Would Be ......

Should Be Prosecuted To The Full Extent Of The Law
