call of the void

Does anyone else suffer from call of the void?
For example, call of the void can involve thoughts or urges to: jerk the steering wheel and turn into oncoming traffic while driving. jump into very deep water from a boat or bridge.
Have you ever stood on the edge of a cliff, peered over the edge, and been suddenly struck by an impulse to jump?
Or maybe you’ve been driving your car when, out of nowhere, the thought enters your head to yank the wheel and to crash your car into the central barrier?
Or like, have you ever been on a busy train platform and been hit by an inexplicable urge to push the person in front of you into the path of a train?
Or is that just me?

Just you. Seek help.

I think we all suffer from that from time to time based on the very reasonable stresses of life. I mean think about it if you saw some of people from here irl and assuming you knew who they were ahead of time, would you want to push them off the platform? I fucking would. (Joke ffs calm down)

Truthfully thought I was alone in this.
For a little bit of backstory I have struggled with mental health issues since I can remember, and used to have suicidal thoughts and impulses constantly; as I've gotten older and have learned healthier coping mechanisms, it seems that the daily impulse has overall dissipated and I have more good days than bad but there are moments that an intrusive thought gets through, and it's a passing impulse, "why shouldn't you jump into oncoming traffic?" about sums up the thought (just as an example)
I have never been able to answer myself, I can just say I haven't done it.
That being said, I think it's a pretty normal thing with a lot of stigma around it so people aren't really open to talking about intrusive thoughts/self harm/etc because they likely feel they may be judged for it/receive a negative response when all we need sometimes is a hug.

Thanks to all of you for your truthful answers. @Taquito If you ever need an open ear HMU. And @Chopper I can see your point but Its more like actually visualizing the act in your minds eye, bit like a day dream I suppose, than just a feeling of not liking someone.

I’ve had similar things. Thought I was just weird.

There’s probably some deep psychological explanation for it. My take on it has been that the mind is a powerful tool that thinks of all the possibilities and if there are no mental health issues I think it’s harmless.

Mental health issues can be so challenging for people-assuming thats what you mean. I would think that if a person doesnt act on *the call* its probably more common than you realize.

Otherwise, could just be some negative thinking related to depression for example, if the thoughts keep drifting to self harm etc. Its a good idea to ask your doctor if it bothers you.

I think this makes a lot of sense. You mind trying to predetermine what is to come maybe.

From what I have read on it it is actually quite common.

holy **** i know this too well, it makes me scared of holding any kind of weapon at all, including a kitchen knife, because i feel like imma stab someone 😭

I do this disaster thing in my head “what would happen if” I think it’s like a middle child/ not the favourite child thing.

But just putting it out there, my pm is always open to anyone that needs a listening ear and a rant.

I've had it before. I don't suffer from it. I just disregard it. Then again, I'm neurotic and have a flood of thoughts most of the time. So it's easy to just pass over. Experience helps.
