For anyone thinking this will be too long to read, here are the main points:
- Back things up more often.
- Use more reliable drives.
- Communicate more.
- Be more present.
The longform stuff is below. Yeah, I'm wordy; I think it'd be expected on a chat site.
It's been longer than a week and it doesn't seem like there will be a direct answer to this. I'll leave this comment here but it doesn't seem like it'll really matter like most suggestions the site gets. There were a lot of failures around the site crash and it's underwhelming how Adult Chat Mobile essentially being wiped of Users was handled.
It's obvious there are backups made for site data; otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to recover what we did. If the site only backs up every 2+ months, then yeah, it's going to wipe people due to the system thinking they're inactive. Back things up more often than the auto-delete limit for Users.
We had something similar happen at the end of November 2023 in Adult Chat Desktop so it's obvious that sufficient measures weren't taken to prevent it again (related to accounts being wiped). That situation was mostly able to be fixed by doing what I suggested for this situation. It seems like the only difference is that the most recent backup was a lot further back this time, so... we actually got worse at handling it? If the entire site crashes due to a drive, get a better drive.
Deeper down, a bigger issue is that the people who use the site aren't seeing enough done when it comes to feedback and suggestions. Communication is almost nonexistent, at least in a way that shows any effort publicly. If we keep things under wraps like we are currently, it's no surprise that we'll have essentially no one caring about the site. Looking at things like News comments, it's obvious people are talking to a void when it comes to having things addressed. Answer the people using the site; if things aren't possible, give a succinct explanation why they aren't possible.
At the very root of this, this is what I think really needs to be fixed: show up. The presence of leadership is lacking. To better relate to people using the site and voicing issues, use the site. Be in the room. Make friends. Announce things. Talk to people. Be a part of the situation. Anyone spending time in chat knows there are problems. If the problems persist and nothing ever gets said about them, it's clear that there's not enough time being spent interacting with the thing that's been created. Be more present and understanding of problems in chat.
All of this being said, it baffles me how most people stick around here. My own reasons for staying are personal and sentimental; I won't ever leave. But I get told plenty from people that they're not comfortable hanging out and chatting because of the state of the rooms. Hopefully this puts some pep in whoever's step it is that's making the decisions. Directly, from me to you:
You're not putting enough effort into the site. Do more. Do better.
