Could we have an "un-report" mechanism

Moving this from the "Remove report limit?" Thread as it's a seperate topic - sorry.

Let's look at a scenario which explains why I think there should be a way to "un-report"

Whilst there is no moderator in the room I make my maximum number of reports about posts in 'all caps' - they will be dealt with as soon as a mod logs in.

Before a mod arrives someone starts posting ceepee. I cannot report this as I have already used up all of my reports.

The mod logs in and sees all my reports about 'all caps' but is unaware of the ceepee because I didn't report it

If there was an "un-report" I could cancel one of my existing ('all caps') reports and replace it with a report about the ceepee. The moderator will now have my report on the ceepee, and my other two about 'all caps'. I could of course not "un-report", trusting that someone else will have reported it.

I do not exceed my report limit - no abuse of the reporting mechanism. I am happy that I reported the ceepee knowing that the mods will deal with it.

Not sure what room you frequent, but still appreciate all of your help with submitting reports!

I understand wishing the report limit was higher, fully. It tends to get abused a bunch which is why it’s set to where it is, and depending on the room and how many users utilize that limit, the reports can come in mass quantities so raising it may not solve the actual issue.

None of my response is meant to imply that it’ll never change, but for the time being, if you know there’s a possibility of more serious infractions being posted in the room that you’d like to report, I’d suggest skipping the ones you already know are trivial in comparison and saving the current allotted amount for the more serious ones.

Hope that helps for the time being!

Not a bad idea.

Thanks, but I have just noticed a flaw in the idea.

Everyone could simply use their maximum reports on trivialities as soon as they enter a room. They're safe in the knowledge they could replace one. Now the incoming mod is faced with the maximum allowed reports from everyone who has been in the room since the previous mod logged out.

Would you like to spend your entire shift dealing with what could literally be thousands of reports whilst trying to check for new violations?

Ok, so you’re shooting down your own idea? Alright 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes I'm gunning for myself - and hoping to avoid mods & admins being even more over-worked. If everyone played nicely it could work, but looking at what might happen the possibilities are awful.

Can we forget I ever mentioned it?
