Cultural differences in chat

This a great question from a chatter who is very intelligent.

As an Aussie I am often misunderstood. Some can be offended when I don't check myself before I express myself in chat. Lots of language that is offensive to many, is normal language and expected language in certain parts of Aussie culture.

Take the c word. Its used to say high to mates. Its even used in the advertising campaign for the Northern Territory. There's adds on billboards on the side of the road using or implying what is for many offensive language.

“Taking the piss” is a common thing amongst friends in Australia that many in other cultures would and do find offensive. Often teasing is a great sign of friendship. To an outsider this can seem like bullying. To call someone a mad (insert c word) here in some circles is high praise.

I hope no one finds the pictures too offensive (Actually I don't care its my culture)

It's funny but true. ****** South Australian road side billboards for road safety. There is a lot of tongue in cheek in this one.

and no one was offended at times i find the puritanical way some Americans act towards language quite strange as zombi says its a part of our vernacular

So if Aussie slang is part of the vernacular with the c word being a term of endearment (as it is in Scotland) why does the Admin piss herself when I call her a c word?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Plus you used it. Watch out for Helga Hufflepuff - he’ll huff puff and blow your post away.
