I am surprised we don't already have a thread but during the weekend Donald Trump said at a speech that he fully expected to be arrested this week. He also called for his supporters to hit the streets and protest when this happens.
For those not in the US , it is hard to explain the effect that Trump has with the downtrodden masses.
So the question is how will you celebrate when Donald Trump gets arrested. Hope he gets 3 years which for him will amount to a life sentence.

enough years to majorly silence him so that maybe maybe maybe a different repub can get a foot hold and the party can get back on track. and hopefully break the spell so when he runs he loses the nomination. maybe 24 will end that way but doubtful. either way will be watching one of the major yappers all day tomorrow. dont want to miss the trying of a 2nd coup.
 
In my life I have tried not to wish bad things on others. However something has to be done to silence this man and curtail his band of crazy loons that support him. His support has been puzzling. I had four on my caseload that voted for him in 2016. Two of them homeless and on disability which shocked me because if left unchecked there would be no more social security and that could happen one day in the US and also no disability.
So when Trump is arrested, I am buying a big fat infused preroll and singing Happy Days over and over again.

I’m gonna be honest with you I would normally agree. If the justice department does it correctly he won’t be running. Won’t be in jail time even though many of us wanted to.
 
Unfortunately, given his track record of being able to do and say almost anything and suffer no lasting consequences, I’m not holding my breath for any arrest. I don’t even care about jail time, because I think he will slither out of that too. I would just be happy if he gets convicted of charges related to the insurrection which would prevent him from running for political office again. Because if he runs again, even with the mountain of things he’s done to ruin this country (and planet) somehow he’d still have a good chance to win. Boggles the mind 🤦🏻‍♂️
 
Actually Difference though we sometimes disagree about everything I have to say that I totally agree with your analysis. Like you I think he will not serve jail time and I think most people agree with that but anything which could prevent him from running again I have to hold out hope for that. My ideal would be that he could not run, Biden decides not to run and maybe some new blood to get this country in a new direction.
 
I agree….. but who? I don’t spend enough time researching all the other potential candidates to know who is even a viable opponent to either Biden or Trump.

In my alternate universe, JFK Jr. never flew his plane that day and never died. And even though he was initially resistant to go into politics, he was convinced to do it and ran a successful campaign against trump, defeating him in 2016.

A young, vibrant, smart person with his lineage could have achieved great things as President, overcoming his lack of experience. I believe he could have united the country in ways it hasn’t been in decades. Oh well…..
 
Fair question for sure. I like the spunk of Ocasio-Cortez, although she is probably too young and I really like Pete Buttigieg and I think he has a lot of positive qualities. On the republican side if Trump is not available then Desantos does not inspire much more than a nut. They almost would have to go with someone the likes of Majorie Tayler-Greene to gain the following Trump has/had.

I have seen a bit of AOC and I was impressed. I just wonder if she is too polarizing of a figure to make a significant challenge. I also really liked what I saw from Pete B. in the debates. Young and smart but again, could he build a big enough base to realistically challenge trump?

I was hopeful at first that there was another republican in DeSantis to take on trump, but he seems to be self destructing. As for MTG, I can’t imagine how fast the country would decend into madness if she were leading it. Nightmarish 😬
