Being a victim of edit culture can be quite distressing. I was in the last 24 hours the victim of an edit scandal of epic proportions.
I received and read a private message (let’s say it was a message telling me I’d won a bottle of bubbly). That message was then edited and a comment added at the bottom (let’s say the edit was “edit: haha no you haven’t really won it lol”)
Had I not accidentally clicked on the message a short while ago I wouldn’t have seen the edit and I’d have still been waiting for my bottle of bubbly.
My humble suggestion arising from this scandal is that if edits are made to a PM by the sender after it’s been sent, a notification is sent to the recipient showing that an edit was made along with showing the before and after of the edits (except in the case of minor edits to correct typos such as the one where my phone gets the impression I frequently want to say “duck”)
What does everyone else think?
Ironic but edited to clarify that I mean the bits now in blue, not someone editing another person’s PMs
