"Crap."
Alethea slapped her alarm clock. She stumbled around in the dark, trying to find the light switch. She was blinded for a few minutes, trying to grope her drawers, finding some clean clothes.
Alethea pulled on a pair of black jeans, and a red top. She grabbed a toothbrush, balancing on one leg spitting in the sink and trying to put a sock on with one hand.
Unsuccesfully.
She tumbled over, on her butt. What a great start. She snagged her room key, grabbed her bag and shut the door behind her.
First lesson started at 9. Alethea managed to eat half a banana before class. She was the last one to sit down in her class.
It was a bummer that none of her friends had fire power. Already, there seemed to be small cliques forming in her class.
She tossed her head back, and her hair tumbled down. Some of the other pupils stared at her rudely. She sighed, and rested on her hands.
The teacher rapped on the board.
"Today, we're going to learn how to create our own fire and not depend on a source."
A few people raised their eyebrows, but Alethea was not one of them. Indeed it was an impressive task, so she needed to concentrate.
The teacher explained what they needed to do, and halfway through the class she was beginning to get the hang of it.
She had formed a small flame inside her left palm. Someone knocked into her, and it was gone.
A deep set scowl appeared on her face, and Alethea leaned back in her chair refusing to do anything else for the rest of the lesson.
She watch the minute hand creep forward. 10 minutes. 5 minutes.
The bell rang.
She scraped her chair backwards, collected her books and was first out the class.
Alethea was hoping to see a familiar face in the corridor. She smiled as she spotted Jack and Tokkyo. She waved and called out to them.
"Hey guys, enjoy first period?"
