I live in America, New York specifically maybe other people can explain this to me. My state keeps saying they’re hiring they’re hiring. They’re hiring even for civil service yet all the civil service jobs the exams are not available or they say you need some fancy fancy degree. (I have an AS in Com Arts & Ba in Entertainment Tech which iS BTS Film, Theatre, & Television. I specifically went for Shoe Programming & Post Production Editing.)

Any suggestions on how to keep yourself positive I keep on feeling down while looking for work. I currently have work, but I’m looking to get a new job as soon as possible honestly. (Better pay.)

Creed , where I am from the State pays fairly well. New York requires a college degree period. Does not matter what in. Child Welfare is always hiring. If you are looking for a short term say 3 years then consider that. Actually Adult protective services is better if they have that in New York. They will train for the department. You are young and can do this type of work and save up for better things. I know someone that works for child services and is trying to make it in the evening doing voice overs. Child Welfare is heart breaking work, not for the weak of heart but a job I took knowing I would not work it for long.

Thank you so much for this. This is very helpful.

Hi there @Creed101 have you thought about being a teacher in the field your in right now like highschool levels 9th through 12th grade or a professor at a college in your area. Some teachers and professors can make a lot of money with good insurance. Some teachers and professors have the summer off and still get paid. That's really nice. Or working for a radio station or T.V. station. Just stay strong and never give up on yourself. They're is so many good jobs out there for you with ALL of your great experience and education. I hope these ideas help you. Have a very blessed rest of the year in 2024. 🙏 You got this Creed.

ALL the best,
Princessa

Good idea I’ll think about that.

someone I know ( not me ) has a degree in theater arts and entertainment and something to do with drawing, art and computer imaging. they tried making it work in new york. they couldn't. they looked outside New York. they answered an advert and moved to CA. they worked 6 years (maybe 8 years) at Pixar with named credits on wreck it Ralph Inside Out and Onward. they left Pixar at the end of 2020. and have a job now at Disney/Marvel. with credited work on no way home, love and thunder and deadpool & wolverine.

All I know is this. it was effing hell in NY for them. they were dying. (figuratively) once they took the leap, with the degree they had , it opened so much. not saying leaving is the best thing for you, you may have something completely different in mind. but the ad agency racket wasnt their thing. If its something you want don't be tied down to one place. I always hear only the greats can live where they want, the rest live where the work is.

That sounds really frustrating! It’s hard when it feels like opportunities are just out of reach, especially with all those barriers like limited exam availability or degree requirements. Staying positive during a job search can be tough, but focusing on your impressive skill set (like programming and post-production editing) might help open doors in other industries, too. For extra income, have you looked into side gigs like Coinme? I’ve read some reviews, and it seems like a straightforward way to dabble in cryptocurrency while exploring other options. Keep pushing forward—you’ve got this!
