As a super late note, it’s been changed form guest to users for the games on VGC
i`m waiting when Valve will add full support for controllers in dota 2. From the last update, Valve has added it as a test. Check https://hawk.live/posts/aghanims-labyrinth-2021-continuum-device if you want to get some more info. I hope it will be this year.

I get what you mean. Controller support in Dota 2 would be a tremendous addition, especially for people who prefer gamepads over mouse and keyboard. I tried the test version, and while it feels decent, it’s not quite there yet. The precision you need for targeting abilities can be tricky with a controller, but if they refine it, it could open the game up to many more players.

Personally I think they should bring the games back on vgc it was a good addition to the room and gave some of the users something to do.
