I know its good to have anyone to use chat rooms and having guests gives users who potentially might like the chat room to see and make an account. However wouldn't it be a good idea to rate limit guests from sending messages, such as given them a 5 second forced pause so they cannot spam and just leave. This can solve spam and trolling and letting mods take action faster with out having to remove the spam comments.

I was talking of something like that before, it sounds like a good idea but CM probably never do that.

Well I never expected VGC to have games and multi player ones yet we do!

Maybe guest having 5 second delay, users with out vip 3 and vip with no delay at all. Seems like a nice way to combat the trolls and still have a nice chat room

I mean it be good for spammers.. to limit there breathing room, make it more difficult for them.

I actually really like this idea. It's in every large Discord server I've seen, I've just never thought about applying the same strategy to Chat Avenue. As @Johnny said, it would slow down larger chat rooms. And as you stated, it would help reduce the efficiency of spammers and give an additional perk to registered / VIP accounts. I don't necessarily think 5 / 3 / 0 seconds are the right amount of rate limiting, but I'm for this idea in concept.

The feature to decide who can pm is old version
3.1 where now upto 3.6 and that option was removed sadly don’t ask me why but idk which sucks

there is codes that stop a user from repeating the same thing over and over it will make it so the user can’t type if it’s the same but spammers only need to change one thing so pointless

First of all stupid idea because Chatmaster will fart in your general direction. Chat Avenue is not the site it use to be. How many ******** do you have in Video Or whatever chat? In the days gone by there use to be 500 users in a chat room at times. Now you sissy newbies whine if there is one of two spammers or trolls. You guys know that one day all of your moms will get tired of you festering in their basements and will be forced to go out and find real work.

I think they should approach Chatmaster on this.... be upwind is all!

This is my two cents worth: No more guest accounts and limit one account per IP address. I don't know if that is possible for this chat server and software, but it would minimize pedophiles and minors. Not completely, but to a beneficial degree.

That's not gonna work. Mainly because they can change their IP address.

Yes, but signing up for account is a bit more of a 'pain' to most people rather than just a guest account. Also, it would be more work for them to get another IP Address. It's about the time they would spend. Some would do it anyway, but I think it would still cut down on those two biggest issues.

Lots of good ideas, most of them shot down with negative confidence in either getting them applied or having them work at all if they were applied. Spleen had a good idea with the forced pause, (Maybe a longer pause?). Baby Universal brought up PM for registered Users only, Also a good idea. ***** mentioned codes that recognize repetition, that would work well also. Account limits per IP address may work too. IF all of these ideas bundled somehow and recommended highly (and repeatedly) by the people in the trenches, perhaps somebody that has the authority to facilitate the changes could be convinced to do it.

Is it worth Your time to try?

With all due respect, you make it sound like we've never tried before. We have. A lot.

And unfortunately, the negative confidence is born of experience. Been there, tried that. But we do still try, and sometimes, things do change for the better through our collective efforts. But it happens in tiny steps and very slowly.

However, the prospect of guest accounts being eliminated is not gonna happen. The advertising rates on this site are determined by "users" (NOT "members"), and unfortunately, the guests account for a large portion of the users.

I see,
Thank You David NY for the reply,
Your comment is actually the first indication I have seen that there is a concerted effort.

A large percentage of the discourse I have seen here between some has all been negative, petty, very adolescent (Things that should be said in pm, to the intended) and in no way shows any indication of "working together"

That is the biggest reason I feel there is conflict where there should be cohesion.

Perhaps I should have closed the last post with
"Is it worth Your time to try again"
Again David, I do Thank You!

I declare. That is too bad about the numbers having to do more with the guest accounts. For me, I see way more abuse and breaking rules with the guest accounts. Some of the account members have suggested to me to have more moderators in the room when there are some hours go by without any. I went in this morning and found 203 reports. The most I have seen since becoming moderator. Again, I am mostly new, so just respectfully suggesting things.
