I'm making this thread to run alongside the thread created by HR here: https://forum.chat-avenue.com/threads/homophobia.951936/ where @H.R. PufnStuf needs help in identifying what homophobia is. Use this thread to note any examples of homophobia on forums and explain why it's homophobic. It might help HR in his learning journey.

As the comments posted in HR's thread are being deleted unjustifiably, I've screenshot my post from that thread below for no other reason than to document it without it being edited/deleted

A Moderator calling a chatter a "f*ggot" is an example of homophobia

Does that mean that the person is homophobic? Solely based on that comment, no. It means that they saw a difference or perceived difference and attacked someone else based on that perception. It's the equivalent of calling someone a black person a racial slur when you simply don't like the person. The comment however would still be racist in the same way that the f-bomb comment is homophobic.

Not taking sides here at all. Since this comment was made it’s clearly both subjective and objective. Objective because we all have eyes and see that comment is clearly homophobic so yeah that’s a fact the chick is homophobic and racist. This isn’t my opinion because she meant what she said….that was indeed homophobic. Especially for someone who claims to be bisexual she’s full of shıt and a hypocrite. And as a black bisexual woman here I’m highly disgusted with these words. That definitely deserved a ban.

A MEN to this! She knew exactly what she was saying but if she hadn't been coached she would now have been banned.

I'm going to add this here as I think its an example of it allowed to run rampant on this site. although I read another's posts( idk where it is now due to this mornings edit fest) that it may not have been her preference then either , but more for the attention. ( if this was you feel free to quote yourself) either way, these actions/examples hinder the LGBTQ+ community and even though the initial act may have not been homophobic, it leads to it.

Telling someone to say "in my opinion" before their comments which have been highlighted as homophobic and racist can be seen as enabling homophobia.

Is is the equivalent of telling the KKK that they can say what they like, as long as they preface it with "In my opinion".

Here is a specific example:

@H.R. PufnStuf

You keep making these mistakes, if it were @-Luka saying anything outrageous, you act on it and you would ban him, as well as some other UMs too.

@H.R. PufnStuf you're not invincible here bud, moderate for all in a fair and just way. If one action warrants a ban and some other forum user does the same, place the same action, not a different or any lesser one (unless directed to by CM)

Gawd help us luv honestly, at least when Rosie, Kim, Jenna and Abriel were around as UMs, there really wasn't any of this going on..

The above is an example of @H.R. PufnStuf coaching another user in what to say so that they don't fall foul of rules here on homophobia and racism. He even says "getting lots of reports".

Is HR being homophobic and racist by doing that? Perhaps/Perhaps not, but he's certainly enabling it

Another thing to think about is a person's behaviour. In general. If they are known for having a set of views then their comments must be viewed in light of that.

This is an example of a user that is a known homophobe that stokes homophobic and transphobic speech on forums then goes to chat rooms and posts crap like this, mocking the users and the forums staff member that allows his comments to stay.

This screenshot is edited to add the skull to mask the word that was used so that it is not removed for containing a banned word:

Oh wow….so many bold people on here smh

example of homophobia;

taking a crucifix, holding it up to someone’s face, knowing theyre a homosexual, then assuming bc theyre a homosexual they must not be religious, & finally asking if it’s offensive to them knowing the church has historically prosecuted homosexuals 👺

its not only homophobic, but also prejudice bc the crass assumption is being made of someone else’s religious creed simply bc of their sexual orientation 🤷🏼‍♀️

To be fair you can be gay and also be religious. I grew up in church. I’m bisexual but I’m a Christian. My sister is Muslim but she’s bisexual. I grew up around a lot of people that are Christians that like the opposite gender or are trans. An old childhood friend of mine I just found out on Facebook is a crossdresser or he’s trans I’m not sure because he kept his birth name on Facebook but he’s also a Christian.

And in mentioning Bread, as much as many of people on here disagree with him, if he had made HRa thread it would’ve been deleted in a heartbeat.

If bread had posted what the bullshitting liar Hannah posted, he would have been banned. And I’d agree with those bans even I’ve copped a ban for calling dartherica a word for trans. Perfect example at direct homophobia to answer HRs question is to tag Dess. Might need CM permission tho

also comment wasn’t aimed specifically at you, your post was most relevant. 😄

thats exactly the point i was making with my example,

hannah wasnt just being homophobic with that post, but also assuming that all gay ppl are atheists; which is another kind of prejudice entirely 🤷🏼‍♀️

i as well am devoutly religious, & homosexual…

It was suggested on forums yesterday that, because homophobic comments did not refer to all gay men, lesbian women, etc, they were not homophobic comments. Reflecting on this reminded me of an example of racism and sexism from earlier this year when a businessman when referring to Diane Abbot (a black female UK MP) and an executive from another company, said:

It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV and you’re just like, I hate, you just want to hate all black women because she’s there, and I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot. [The executive] and Diane Abbott need to be shot. She’s stupid … If we can get [the executive] being unprofessional we can get her sacked. It’s not as good as her dying. It would be much better if she died. She’s consuming resource. She’s eating food that other people could eat. You know?

The businessman specifically says he doesn't hate all black women but a black woman makes him want to hate all black women. It's a clear example of how using race and sex is racist and sexist even when it is stated that their feelings don't extend to all black women. The correlation between that and what was suggested here in reference to homophobia is clear.

I often use race as a comparator when talking about this subject because many people that are either homophobic, support/enable it or simply don't understand it aren't racist and do fully understand racism. They struggle to equate the two because it makes them feel uncomfortable.
