How to Leg Press for Maximum Glute Activation?

Hi everyone!

I’ve been doing leg presses for a while but feel like my glutes aren’t really getting worked as much as I want. I usually place my feet shoulder-width apart, but I’m not sure if my form or foot placement is optimal for targeting the glutes specifically.

I’ve been how to leg press for glutes? Does anyone have tips on foot position, seat angle, or any technique adjustments that help emphasize glute activation during leg presses? Also, should I focus on depth or weight to really engage the glutes?

Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful.

Thanks!

Hey!

I had similar issues with Leg Press and honestly, with Back Squats also. I prefer Back Squats to Leg Press, just due to more of my body being engaged. But for leg press, position your feet higher on the footplate, toes slightly outward and a wider stance, to increase hip flexion and glute stretch and contraction. Prioritize a deeper range of motion, controlled eccentric (lowering) phase. Make sure that your glutes are lifting or trying to compensate on the seat either. Quick way to lose engagement and have your quads steal the show.

It helped for me, I hope it helps you out!
