Is There Such a Thing as a Bad Word?

I think we call it a "bad-word" because that's what our parents told us when we were little I suppose, and it just 'stuck' I guess haha, it's like when you were younger and an adult said '****' then you would go around and repeat it. :hmm:

Would you have me censored for posting your personal details, your location, phone number etc?

Go ahead. I oppose censorship ENTIRELY. Sadist pornography, child pornography, and what people do or say on the television or the radio should not be controlled by the government, nor any institution which imposes censors.

I won't rest until 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre' is given its rightful PG rating (as was intended by Tobe Hooper) and stations are allowed to play snuff videos, XXX films, or whatever the hell they want on the air.

To start with, my ZIP code is 20150, and my account password is !eclectic97. If you want more info, go ahead. Ask me. I don't have a social security or a telephone though, sorry. Some of you horrid bastards won't even tell me when your birthday is.

Heck, some of you reading this have even seen me NAKED. I've openly given you the right to keep my photos, or distribute them to whoever you want. Am I in the slightest bit ashamed by that? NO. Why should I be?

Some people have been talking about restricting the rights of the paparazzi because it infringes on a celebrity's 'privacy'. Well, I don't believe in privacy. What 'privacy' do celebrities deserve anyway? They're celebrities. If information leaks, then it's free for everyone to disseminate. I believe in a free media, a free press, an open society.

This is just disgusting. If we ever promoted people insinuating violence towards others ***ually or children being raped on TV and radio I would lose faith in humanity more than I already have.

We might have seen you naked but you made the conscious choice to show us all despite none of us wanting to see your body. Do little kids In child pornography get to make that choice? No, because for one, by law they are far too young to even consent and as a child most of them, if not all, I'd say have absolutely no interest and are forced into these explicit acts.

If we were to display this on tv for all to see, not only are we encouraging this behavior further as well as fueling more of a demand which means more children being molested and scarred for life if not killed afterwards just so some sick person can get his rocks off. Its bad enough you can find it on the internet, or that it happens at all really but I guess I don't expect much from someone who technically partook in child pornography by taking nude photos and distributing his pictures across this chat site despite being under 18 years old.

Context does mean a lot, but unfortunately, a majority of the average users that come to the rooms are bad with context. They either want to use context to pick fights without any common sense, or they just flat out don't understand it. That is why sometimes we need to simply ban words. In my room, College Chat, we have three banned words. One of our banned words is the n-word, and while I think there may be just a handful of cases where it is used in an academic, non-offensive way, we are right to ban the word because it is so strong it will always cause a response in someone and, as I said, users are just bad with context. I understand your point and I sympathize, but it's lose/lose

Considering it seems to be the fashionable thing here at Chat Avenue to site ban, insta ban, people who say certain words, it got me to thinking of whether or not if people here at this site (the ********) actually believe there is words so bad that they cannot be said, even in a quote or used as an illustrative point. Last night I was discussing the continent of Australia and its relationship to Britain, and I said that no other nation has "r word", pillaged, slaughtered more nations than Great Britain has and I was banned. To me, I wasnt saying the "r word" in the sexual sense or even a harassing sense, but as an illustrative point that the lands and people were "r worded" of their dignity, fossil fuels, minerals, etc. To me its as simple as this.... it is not the words, but it is how you say the words.... I dont know how many times I see in chat that the girls call eachother bitches and laugh it off, yet someone may find it offensive; but they are close and are saying it in a sisterly type of way. Now had someone said "You are a bitch" in an aggressive type of way, sarcastic type of way, then it becomes offensive. Am just curious, as to what other peoples thoughts are.

Perhaps they were being racist and banned you for being Irish, lulz.

I believe there isn't a bad word in the English language. Although, there are some words which have an emotional impact on the people hearing them. For eg: A woman who has been ***ually assaulted in may find the word 'ra.pe' to be disturbing. On the other hand, people shouldn't take words at face value and find them offensive just because of their meanings. If the pragmatics are analysed then one can determine what the person really means when he uses an "offensive" word.

Language is the use of symbols and symbolic sounds of those symbols to emphasize emotions, information, and moreover to communicate in general.
Whether a symbol is bad or good, is only recognized in terms of how it is referenced in context.

If it is recognized as offensive in context, which was originally done on purpose to form a negative expression upon someone or something, then it is considered over time to be a bad word, as the trend of that word has been associated negatively.

Like people saying "Yo" instead of hello, yo has become a trend that grew from some origin to mean hello.

When it comes to a cuss or swear word, those too began as a trend.

Some words have disappeared, and some have stayed with us since they were first used.

In the end, a symbolic message cannot be bad or good, but negative or positive.

The only reason it is considered negative or positive is because of how the world associates that negativity to their environmental situation.

When someone uses negative communication towards another person, the message is clear that there is negativity.
This isn't a bad thing, because we can't argue that a positive symbolic message such as "I love you" can be associated in any other way but positive.

If you know what I mean by that, you already know that a bad word does not exist, and a good word does not exist. The only thing that exists in this case, is the way someone refers their symbolic language to a particular emotion or meaning.
e.g. someone can say "you are a butthead" and recognize "butthead" as having a head that is a butt. But the only reason this became negative is because of the origin that feces excretes itself. And in most cultures, it is frowned upon to have a head that excretes fecal matter.
But in some cases, if you have a close friend, where your common introduction to each other is HEY BUTTHEAD! it can be portrayed in a positive symbolic message, meaning HEY FRIEND!.

Also, the term "butthead" can be replaced with vulgar words as well, ones that I am probably not allowed to say in this particular forum.

It's an interesting subject, and very debatable.

I'd say it's all subjective. Some are offended by (specific) words while others are not. It all depends on the listener.

I, personally, do not find any words offensive. I believe some words are inappropriate at certain times, but it is only because I understand that many people find such words offensive.

Just my 2 cents.

People associate words as 'good' or 'bad' by the way they were used. If I were to call someone an a-hole, it could have a variety of effects. If they were my buddy, they would wonder 'What the heck did I do?', since I 'swore' to get their attention. If it was a stranger, they'd take it as an insult. It all depends on the listener, the way the word is used and the many interpretations of the word that make it 'good' or 'bad.

Words are words, people...don't start labling them 'good' or 'bad', because then the language will fall apart.

I don't believe censorship should be allowed in our world anymore, due to the fact that you'll hear a bad word at least once in your life. Plus, my mom doesn't like it when I swear because it's "impolite". I don't really see why that's impolite because when i'm with other people and I swear they don't point out and just continue the conversation. I don't really see the logic behind it.

I don't generally curse as it's just my nature not to. I do think cursing is not acceptable in specific situations like when conducting business at the work place and speaking in public places. Also, it's not polite to curse at anyone in public service because for some reason they cannot accommodate you. Teachers, I believe shouldn't be cursing in classrooms with young children. To me it's promoting it's OK to use such words in bad context.

I have a girlfriend that curses so much it would make a Sailor blush. However, I do not take offense of it and some of my guy friends find it cute. She's simply enhancing sentences with curse words because it is showing her true emotion without filtering when telling a story. My Mama hates cursing as well for the same reasons, being rude and impolite. My Papa will flip out a zinger once in a while when frustrated and get yelled at. LOL

I do not like when some one curses at me. One can curse when talking to me about something that happened, but don't curse at me. Saying: "F-You" Calling me a "Dumb B-itch" is downright rude and unnecessary. I also detest the "C" word in any language. Call me prude or a moralist, but one loses all class and credibility when speaking in this manner.

As far as airwaves and television, there are usually warnings as like sexual content and violence. If you choose not to listen to it or watch it, simply change the dial to something else.

These are purely my opinions, that does not make it wrong or right. 🙂

All words are daily used in the life.
Whether we like to admit it or not, we all use them.
Are we all bad persons? I don't think so.
Anyway its more important what you think about someone than what you say about him/her. Cause sometimes people say words in affection that they don't really mean.
But if you think that someone really sucks...that can not be changed.

I'm guilty of Blasphemy... OMG I'm going straight to Hell. I will not Pass/Go and I will not collect 200 dollars. I am going directly to Hell! :devil1:
