To me, this is an important subject.
It has come to my attention recently, that whenever I do something a chatter does not like, they bring up mental illnesses.
As an example today, someone was speaking on anorexia nervosa (a condition i have had in past and currently dealing with now on top of other health issues) and a user asked what it was, and how it was different from Bulimia Nervosa, so I explained, only to have my disorders called disgusting, getting called puke breath as a “joke”. (bulimia reference)
another example; a chatter mentioned adult chat, so I asked his age. He asked mine back, I responded “18” because my 18th is tomorrow.
Then asked him several times again for his age, only to get told I look like I have autism.
They seem like jokes to you guys, but they do hurt. I promise you that.
You guys know if anything makes me angry, it’s when people joke about mental illnesses or have stigma surrounding it.
I will admit, before in the past, I have lost my temper due to this topic before, it has flared largely because of it.
We don’t ask to be like this.
All were asking you guys; try to understand. We’re trying. It’s not easy.
Don’t make jokes nor use insults surrounding negativity to mental health please
Just because we don’t look it, doesn’t mean we aren’t affected.
look at me.
Can you tell I was locked up in an asylum a two years ago because of mental health issues?
can you tell I suffer from several life-threatening disorders such as psychosis and borderline personality disorder?
They are jokes to you, but to me it’s my every day struggle and I just wish people would understand that sometimes.
Mental Health is real.
It does exist.
Thanks.
