I wanted to make this post to address a concept I hear quite often in Girls Chat. A lot of people, including some mods, seem given to the notion that if you just ignore male trolls, like Corey, who come into GC, they will simply go away. I'm here to say that I disagree.
While I do agree that the concept of ignoring will work on female trolls, that same concept will not work on male trolls. It boils down to a basic difference between men and women. As girls, the fact is, we LOVE attention. It's one of the things that drives a lot of us to GC: to talk to a receive attention from other likeminded girls in a safe environment where we can be who we are, which is something that a lot of us lack irl. We need to be wanted, we need to be desired, we need to feel listened to, and when we don't receive any of those things, we will go to places and people who will give us attention. KNowing that, deprivation of attention is a tactic that CAN work in dealing with female trolls.
Guys are different. While certainly Im not saying that guys dont like attention, I am saying that the need for attention is not the driving force for anything they do/don't do. Pride, not attention, is what they seek, and that, imo, is the arena that male trolls should be handled in. Depriving them of attention, shying away from them and going silent is not an action that they are going to respect. In fact, quite contrary, it feeds into their pride. What IS necessary, imo, is to attack that pride. By attacking and dismantling any feelings they have of pride, we slowly but effectively, make it less fulfilling and more embarassing for them to be in the room. Add to that any embarrassing screen shots, and it could be the knockout punch you're looking for. The only way to discourage male trolls is to attack them head on, full force, with everything you got, and especially if you can make them look like fools in front of other guys that happen to be in the room. In my opinion, by allowing guys like Corey into the room, unchecked, the site owners are assenting to this course of action.
Additionally, add to that that I dont really understand the fear that the mods seem to have of Corey and dealing with him. I mean, seriously, what is the concern about him? That he would take some sort of legal action against this site? Laughable. Corey has no legal standing. The first time he opened his mouth and told any lawyer, judge, or jury that he was a middle aged man hanging out in a room meant for teenage and 20-something women, he would lose any standing that he had. I've never understood the fear of this character.
Anyway, these are my thoughts, not yours. Choose you this day your course of action. I;ve already chose mine.
