memorable tv theme tunes

Listening to this and the Hill Street Blues theme now always makes me melancholy
I grew up in the (late) 80s and 90s (I’m almost 40) Slightly too young to be part of Generation X, but not by much, so still a Millennial. These shows were all on TV when I grew up, but most of them were reruns by then, since I didn’t grow up in an Anglophone country, so they all got broadcasted slightly later here than they did in the US, except for British TV, since we have British channels here. I also grew up on British TV, as I have dual citizenship and was raised bilingual.

This was before the widespread use of computers and mobile phones. Simpler times I guess (and this is coming from a gamer, although I’m a console gamer) Less polarization, less populism, less right-wing conspiracy idiots and less hatred in general. In my opinion better times than the ones right now.

I would like to have experienced the 1970s too. a period of great change. Countercultural movements, student revolutions, sexual revolution etc. It paved the way for the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, until that legacy got destroyed by conservatives and Alt-Right fear mongers.

Yes, I’m a bleeding-heart liberal, lol. Nostalgia and melancholy make life bearable.

Proud Gen Xer here who agrees with you 100%. Born and bred in the Caribbean where we also had the benefit of the British education and British TV shows, Allo Allo, Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served etc etc, these and the many wholesome American TV substance that existed back then through their family oriented sitcoms/series like Little House on the Prairie, Eight is Enough, The Cosby Show etc these were ingrained into our generation and thankfully so. DON’T even get me started on the quality music we inhaled from the 70s/80s/90s I can go on ALL day about that. But yea I strongly believe its why we and even some of the millennials depending on yr of birth, are so laid-back, light-hearted and kids at heart.

We were the generation before seatbelts/helmets/the negative influence of cable tv/video games. We roamed the streets/neighbourhoods for hours without our parents having to worry, our heads weren’t buried in consoles but in adventure/romance paperback books, grassy fields and rivers etc. I am constantly revisiting the past through music/movies/long-time friends, where times were simpler and less complicated so I absolutely get it when you say it makes life bearable.

P.S. I feel like a 'GET OFF MY LAWN" should be inserted here somewhere.
