MOD II Capitano in chat avenue general is 17 yo as per their own profile
!! underage mod reading n deciding on sexually explicit , violent, racist content WILL lead to legal issues !!!!

Child Labor Laws
If the moderator is acting as an official agent of the site (even as an unpaid volunteer), forcing or allowing them to review adult content can violate child labor and workplace safety laws. Which they are definitely at some point being exposed to as everyone knows what gen chat room is.

Loss of Section 230 / Safe Harbor Protections
In the United States, Section 230 protects site owners from being held liable for what users post. However, this protection does not apply to federal criminal law or cases where the platform's own operational structure like its moderation pipeline violates the law. Aka if the mod in question fucks up it can lead to some serious fines at least.

Exposing a minor to explicit/adult material.
Violating modern safety laws (DSA, Online Safety Act).

I'm feeling generous today i dont usually like discussing legal stuff for free..

Also @TheLeigh , Since I have officially put in my mod app for gen chat, I can probably replace who ever this moderator is with ease, though, with my mysterious ghost mute not being lifted any time soon, i dunno. might make it hard. but im sure you can figure it out. And i would like to suggest daniel_m be perma banned for just being a knob.

Rules are rules. If it’s an American website that goes by everything American (obvs) then it if I get banned for saying removed because I’m British (but subject to US laws- or terminology-) then so should underage mods?

Or is it selective equality when it suits?

Under federal law, children of any age can work for a parent owned business in non hazardous, non manufacturing, and non mining jobs for any number of hours, though depending on the state there are additional laws to consider.. So your parents can definitely put you to work and use you as slave labor provided its lawful slave labor that doesnt endanger.. Gotta earn that playstation 6, childhood canceled

there are under 18 users like myself, they feel more comfortable going to someone closer there age then an adult with issues
This can be solved easily, remove everyone under 18 from rooms where adults are and there you go, no need to force adults to follow 50 sheets of rules just because your parents don't love you lot and let you be on here without supervision. Will that actually prevent you from lying about your age ?

Probably not but at least it makes it harder for preds to find victims and lets adults chat in peace.

We gonna destroy the internet to accommodate you lot smh. I'm gonna start handing out pamphlets on how parents can legally put their kids to work for each state so they don't have free time to log on and be a bother and burden for everyone.

Hi @daniel_m -

I understand the concern, however being 17 does not automatically make someone unable to moderate a 13+ room or mean that their role creates a legal issue.

A moderator isn't there to seek out or participate in inappropriate content. They're there to help keep the room safe and remove content that violates the rules. And realistically, a 17-year-old could encounter the same content in the room whether they had a mod badge or not. The difference is that, as a moderator, they have the ability to step in and remove it and help protect the other minors who are there.

There are also staff policies and procedures that aren't public information, so it's not really possible to judge how moderation is handled based solely on what someone can see from a public profile.

If there is a specific legal concern, that's one thing and should be addressed with @Chatmaster via direct message, but simply being 17 and a moderator in a 13+ room doesn't, on its own, establish that anything illegal or unethical is happening.

I hope that helps.
