mod names

I dont know where to put this so forgive me if its in the wrong area. Is it a rule mods cant change their names in chat rooms becuase they have to match the forum names or they get demoted. A mod told me this in a chat room but I NEVER heard of this rule and i know for a fact all mods dont match the forums name.
So either they are misinformed or Admins can make rules for mods with names and forums.
I guess I made the post to ask if they are misinformed or if admins are allowed to tell mods their names have to match forum names or they will be demoted.

I think many admins ask for forums names to be as close to chat names as possible to make it easier to identify mods. But I’m not sure it’s a hard and fast rule. Some admins may make it so but I believe it’s just a preference. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.
 
Idk if it’s a rule I do know that when I was a mod I was asked to refrain from changing my in room name so that any issues can be handled without confusion. I think it is a CA non formal rule

It is probably up to the admins to decide it. I just know mods in les chat change their names sometimes but i heard in girls chat they arent allowed to so i was wondering if its up to the admin or not. But it probably is since 2 rooms have different stances on it

How various room admins manage their rooms (and mods) is room specific. Generally speaking as far as I ever knew, room and forums names should the same but again if there are to be exceptions that's up to each room admin.

I have been told by CM in the past (in regards to me and my room- names have to be the same)

it’s a rule that a mod has to keep the same* name as in chat here. But there can be obvious exceptions for holidays like Halloween if allowed by the admin. I didn’t allow name changes unless they went through approval from me if it’s a reasonable request. I assume it will work the same in all rooms tho. A mod can’t keep changing names AFTER they were hired. I allowed them to change their name when they got hired and told them that’ll be their name from now on now. If they change name in chat they’ll have to change it here.

* = as said if you can obviously identify them and it’s a similar name from chat and forums then that’s fine.
