Pets wearing clothes

I'm curious to see how many people think dogs/cats/any pet should wear clothes.

I'm fine with breeds like whippets getting a jacket in winter for
extra warmth in cold climates and jackets to swim in if they are not natural swimmers etc but I disagree with dressing up a pet for fashion or to make it look cute.

What do you think? Do your pets wear clothes?

well i have pet snake and it would be extra weird to put socks on her, lol, ofc i would never dress her up!!!
and my 2 cats, hahahahha, they would probably tare all those clothes on 10000 parts!!

Tbh, i think dressing up a pet for fashion or to make them look cuter is kinda form of animal abuse, its not in their nature to wear clothes, so why force them!!!!

They all look so wrong and uncomfortable to me. :\

I dress up my dogs in sweaters since they're boys. Also for holidays. I even used to dress up one of my cats but he didn't like it all that much so I stopped. My dogs don't seem to mind it though.

My dog Otis brings me his sweater when he's cold so I can put it on him. I don't see how it's animal abuse to give him something to help him feel more comfortable.

I think the only reason people have an issue with it is due to the fact that dogs depend a lot on pheromones, it's basically how dogs interact and meet others. They don't sniff each others willys or butts to be nasty, that's all due to the pheromones and curiosity really. Some people argue that putting clothes on dogs may prevent that, especially when a dog is trying to socialize with others.

I only dress up one of my dogs, the eldest one who's a 10 lb chihuahua. I only put sweaters on him during the winter, because chihuahuas are easily cold and he's almost always shivering in the winter. My other little mix has a thick coat, so he rarely shivers, and I've tried putting sweaters on him, but he'll have none of it. I won't stress him out, so I let him be, he's a dog after all. My sister's poodle has a lot of hair and gets hot easily, so he doesn't wear clothes. My dalmatian wears raincoats when it rains and I take him out for a walk. If we go out jogging at night, I put little boots on him, because he just turned one so his paw pads are still sensitive and sometimes d!ckheads smash glass on the floor and whatnot.

Which one got the doggy cupcakes?

^ Not the thread, Spens.

Honestly, the only time dogs should wear clothes, other than thehir owners being worried about them freezing to death in the cold, would be during halloween. Other than that, it just looks ridiculous.

If the dog has short hair and the temp outside is freezing, then it would make sense to some sort of 'coat' to keep the dog's body temperature from plummeting outside.

I find it very irksome when people dress up dogs for no reason but just for the heck of it.

pets in clothes ?

pets in clothes ?

at the most i put bandanas on my dogs...they dont seem to mind much... my daughter dresses up the one cat in doll clothes...he doesnt like it ,but puts up with it ... other than a small dog needing booties and a sweater in the winter,or a short haired dog like a greyhound..im not in favor of clothes for animals......:dontknow:

Noo.

Noo.

I don't think its right personally for anyone to dress up there cat/dog like its a doll or something.:curse:

o.0 what the ****

You people are mental if you think pets should be dressed in "clothes".
I don't mind giving a dog a blanket or throw over in the winter time.. or covering the bird cage with a towel when it's cold and wet,
but for heavens sake.. they should be made to dress up in actual clothes.

I don't think pets should be dressed up everyday as if they were little dolls, but i think it okay to dress them up on holidays as long as the animal isn't in any kind of distress and allows you to put it on them and they aren't left on for a long period since it could cause the animal to become over heated.

If we go out jogging at night, I put little boots on him

cutest thing I've ever imagined.

Also I feel like it depends on the animal. I believe that pets, like people, can easily use body language to show how they feel about something.
If they're resisting clothing then you shouldn't force it. However, if they don't seem to mind then I guess I don't see the harm.

Only when needed if not why the hell would you put some clothes on an animal they have fur they don't need clothes.

My mom's dog has more clothes than I do... especially Christmas stuff.. our Daschunds have Mr & Mrs Clause outfits.. :/

stupid unless its for a small dog wearing a sweater which my Grandparents had

Granted I don't go dressing my dog up on a day to day basis....but I am guilty of doing it..for halloween.
I bought my pup a superman costume...so imagine a lab head sticking out of the window with his cape flapping in the air...it was hilarious!

Now if it was on a day to day
thing..I wouldn't but if it was for fun like on halloween I'm all about it.😀

I'll admit my two dogs have a few halloween costumes  and they also each have a jacket 😀 I see no problem with it.

I have a Whippet, he has a special coat that he must wear in the winter when he goes outside for more than just a few moments to relieve himself, to keep him warm and it works well.

My Cairn Terrier is a freeze-baby, so he wears sweaters and coats throughout fall and winter.

If the dog doesn't mind being "tortured" with being dressed up, then I see no problem. If the dog is not of your own, then I don't think it's anyone's business or right to say whether or not dressing animals up is "wrong". If the dog is happy and comfortable, like my Cairn is, then great; but if not, then the owner should take the animal's comfort into consideration over using it as a dress-up toy.

My precious little dog gets cold easily and will usually be shivering before me, (which is weird considering how much fur she has) therefore, I normally put sweaters on her in the winter. That's for warmth and not to 'dress' her up.

Additionally, we have really hot summer and we've been told the sidewalk will burn her pads so we put little booties on her when we walk her along the beach on the sidewalk.

I think animals wearing clothes is stupid. They have fur and their temperature requirements are different then humans. So putting clothes on dogs or cats especially in the summer time is not smart they will get to hot and if its too cold for them bring them inside.

To be honest, I think pets look incredibly ridiculous when they are wearing clothes. Halloween pet costume are sort of cute though.

While some pet animals appreciate the warmth of a sweater or the attention that comes from wearing a novelty costume, many animals resist so much as a collar. Dogs and horses seem to tolerate their gear wear. The cats I've known have either been ambivalent or nudists. Few other animals wear anything.
