pm question(s) and recommendations

I have read on several posts, about pm/dm use, abuse, and the inability of Users to control them.
Being as new as I am to this site, I am amazed that this problem has not been resolved years ago.
Each User Should be able to "block" another User, that is simple common sense! (I know, not so common)
Why, is it not possible for a User to block (Completely) another User?
Why do ignores get released by somebody other than the person employing it?

Non answers or cheap easy outs are really not wanted here I Know "the system" operates that way, that is not an answer that is an excuse.
The very Worst answer to a user with a problem was "Delete Your Account".... Seriously? That was Your answer?
The issues above regarding pm/dm, are real, and they are a problem. "Somebody" has the clout to fix it. All the mods/site admins/ chat master,
that monitor this site "Should" be ready to send "requests" up the tubes to the powers that be to fix it, many of them until the problem is solved.
It should be done, and it can be done. "Is it a lack of resources, or a lack of resolve?"

Some of You have seen my recently, some of You know me, I did not come here to start a Pi..ing match with anybody, but if it comes to that, I have Full Bladder.

I don’t understand what you mean…?

The ignore button is blocking a user. It will prevent them from pming you and will prevent you from seeing them in main.

The site uses a 3rd party developer and won’t need to change it as it’s working as it should be?

Hello Annie : ) Maybe I am beating a dead horse, but I have seen numerous threads with the concerns of the ignore being lifted very shortly after it was applied, and not by the person that implemented it, and other times where there is a "system sweep" of sorts that removes many of them. I myself don't need to use it, but it can be a comfort and form of protection to those who do need it. There should be a change to the system that does not allow that. It may be a long hard fight to get it done, but I am confident that it can. all it takes is enough people in the right position to be determined enough to make it happen.

I like Your Avatar, Is that a seasonal thing, or permanent?

30 days is when they get removed off ignore. I cant confirm the actual reason for this, only the dev would know, but im assuming its for storage purposes, and its really not a big deal, its not like its getting removed after a day, you can re ignore and boom problem solved.

Yes its seasonal ofc.. me and mods are having the annual spooky mods so we are all in style.

As far as the 30 days, some users have posted same day removal...The storage thing baffles me, they could gain an immense amount of space by dusting out some the forums......Posts back ten or more years.

I think It's cool that You Guys do the seasonal/Holiday thing changes things up a bit! : )

They simply log out and come back with a different name so rinse and repeat .
I ask, in order to gain knowledge. I was laboring under the assumption that accounts were tied to e-mail accts (at least). I take it then that this may not be the case? Thanks Kim.

The only way I can think off this happening, is if you go to your blocked user list and try clear by hitting the 'x', against the blocked user , it unblocks them.

Hi @Kwasind, it's not necessarily 30 days from when a chatter is put on an ignore list that they are taken off. Rather every 30 days or so, the there's a system wide sweep where ignore lists are reset. Considering ******** constantly are putting other ******** on ignore, it is very possible that at least a few of these ignores are lifted the following day. There are more than one of these resets that the system automatically does for our chat rooms, and resetting profile pictures is another example. This isn't a glitch or error in the system that needs to be fixed, but rather a built-in feature. I can't honestly tell you the reasoning behind this part of the programming as I am not a programmer, but I can tell you that is why no one is rushing to 'fix' an 'issue' that is operating as intended.

There are three different types of accounts in Chat Avenue chatrooms: guest accounts, registered accounts, and VIP accounts.

Registered accounts and VIP accounts are tied to email addresses, so ******** can place someone with these types of accounts on ignore and the system will remember this ignore preference for up to 30 days. Likewise, someone with one of these types of accounts can place someone else on ignore and the system will retain their preferences for up to 30 days.

As @Kim mentioned, guest accounts are not registered with an email address. You can still put a guest account on ignore and someone with a guest account can ignore other ********, but as soon as the chatter who came in with that guest account leaves, the guest account is gone along with any information tied to it. That means things like PMs, ignores, etc are all removed and reset upon departure (both for the chatter who created the guest account and for anyone who interacted with the guest account). So again as @Kim said, all a guest chatter needs to then do is re-enter the chat with a new guest account and they are no longer on any ignore lists. This is not a feature I personally see abused often, but it is something that ******** encounter with spammers when there's not a mod around to prune their messages and kick them.

Ok, I have a better understanding of this part of the system, I do still feel that something should be to leave removal of an ignore solely to the person that applied it. regardless of how the system works, there has to be a way to leave that option to the user. I am not a computer code guy, but I have seen some amazing stuff come out of a few lines of code. I understand "the system" is cleaning itself. as I stated in the initial post, there are areas that are well in need of cleaning that pretty much sit dormant. What I meant when I said "Fix it", was to have the system modified to leave that area out of the cleaning process.

Thank You Lost Cause, You provided a lot of good info : )
