Question for Staff - Report Limits ?

Hello, staff members.

Hope you are all doing well !
I just had a basic enquiry about the reporting system.
I've attempted to ask people before but I never get ask straight answer.

Why do reports have daily limits?
I can report about 5 people before I am blocked from reporting.
We all know that there are a lot of things that need attention.
(Especially in the teen chat)

If I could have a somewhat acceptable explanation, I'd be thankful.

Hello! The reporting limit isn't per day, and the report limit varies from room to room. Because you mentioned five reports in your message, I'll use five in my example.

Think of report flags as physical flags. Every time you report something, you put one of your flags in the message. When you've put all five of your flags into five messages, you're now holding zero flags. When a mod resolves one of your reports, they pull your flag out of a message and hand it back to you. So once a mod has cleared all of your reports, you're free to report five messages again.

Because I'm not familiar with Teen Chat, I'll use my experience in Gay Chat as an example. We average around 800 ********, and sometimes have upwards of 1,000. Each of our ******** can submit up to three reports at any given time. That's up to 3,000 reports at any time. Now realistically that won't happen, but over the span of even a 15 minutes, reports can climb up to over 50 or 100. It's not unheard of for a mod to come in and need to clear 200 or 300 reports. A mod must read each of those reports, make a determination, and take action - which takes real time and attention. All staff members are unpaid volunteers that donate their time to moderating the site. If ******** could make unlimited reports, not only is the feature likely to be abused, a mod could not adequately moderate the main room if they were busy addressing endless reports instead.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any follow-up questions you may have.

Using a room with 800 gay people spamming **** pics and cp links is a pretty extreme example.

There are rooms that at most have 20 or so regular users. what is the excuse for having five reports here?

As it sits mods already don't moderate the main room because they're never there. If and when they are there, the excuse is always "I missed it, why didn't you report it?"

If I didn't report it and you're freely chatting in the main room it means you should be moderating main chat.

So once a mod has cleared all of your reports, you're free to report five messages again.
Then there's mods that know how to abuse the report system and purposefully do not clear flags from specific users as to prevent them from reporting more rule breaking.
ie user harassment.

Because if those report flags aren't put down, they can't be raised again.
