44 years ago today, John Lennon was murdered outside his home in New York City. Lennon was a facinating person and led an incredible life.

One of my favorite songs of his was not one with the Beatles but was actually released posthumously in 1981. It was recorded in 1980 during a time where he had essentially retired from the music industry in order to focus on raising his son Sean. One of the most famous musicians in the world basically became a house-husband. Of course he received a lot of criticism for it and this song was his response to those critics. I love this video because it has a lot of footage of John just being a normal father and doing things with his son.

RIP John 💔

People say I'm lazy
Dreaming my life away
Well they give me all kinds of advice
Designed to enlighten me
When I tell them that I'm doing fine watching shadows on the wall
"Don't you miss the big time boy, you're no longer on the ball?"

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

At the time in my youth and ignorance I didnt realise what a big loss this was, but I sure did after.

Trivia: Ronald Reagan's assassination attempt not long after was inspired by this murder.

This song from Sir Elton, to me is the best tribute to John.. R.I.P.

During his era when it was still segregation, my grandma told me good things about the Beatles. How much they didn’t care about race and they did not care if they got into trouble for allowing black people to attend their concerts, they would stop their show if people had a problem with that. The U.S sometimes would not let them perform here if they were okay with allowing black people to come to their concerts. My community loved those handsome english men. I remember she said the women were so jealous because around the time the Beatles were widely known all over the world, John Lennon had recently got married to his first wife. The only one out the bunch that was married in a boy band so young but he didn’t care, he let it be known “sorry ladies I’m happily taken. Sad for the other women but not surprising since marrying so young was the thing back then. Anyways he was a very good guy. Second guy besides Elvis that I know of in the music industry that wanted to put his focus on his child more than anything else. Elvis loved Lisa Marie. It’s such a coincidence how during their last days on earth, both John and Elvis wanted to solely focus on their kid. Not only were they both born 5 years apart but died 3 years apart as well. So crazy. Rest In Peace to the both of them ❤️❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽🌹🌹

Wow great story. Times were worse back then and a lot of civil rights progress has been made since. Hopefully we aren’t going back to that mindset.
I didn’t know that about Elvis. Ty
