Rules Exist — But Mods Play by Their Own

Today I once again faced a profile photo removal and a temporary block — all because moderation apparently can’t (or won’t) read and apply the site's own rules properly.

Here’s the political rule as written:

“Discussing political matters is not permitted. Do not post campaign comments, pictures or memes in main chat.”
Notice: it clearly refers to main chat only. Nowhere does it say that political-themed imagery in a profile is forbidden. And yet, I was penalized for an image a mod deemed a "caricature" — even though it didn’t mock or satirize anyone, so technically it wasn’t even a caricature.

So here’s my question: why can’t the administration take a bit of time to clarify the rules more precisely?

Why don’t the mods take action against users whose profiles say things like “Only UK,” “No Indians,” “No white guys,” etc.? Isn’t that racial discrimination? Oh, right — apparently that doesn’t violate the rules. According to the mods, at least. Even though it absolutely could be interpreted as racism.

Then we’ve got the ongoing issue of fake profiles and stolen images — people uploading pictures of random internet users or even celebrities. Isn’t that identity theft? How about introducing at least basic photo verification?

But no — all that gets ignored. What can’t be tolerated, apparently, is one piece of political art, even when it's neutral. Seems like this site has no shortage of overly sensitive souls.

By that logic, even a moderator named "Archangel" could be reported — he's using religious imagery and a sacred name. In many countries, that’s considered blasphemy, and it’s legally punishable. So where’s the consistency?

I just want rules that apply equally — even to those meant to enforce them.

Can’t edit now. This thread wasn’t in adult forum before 🤨

@ArChAnGeL you’ve been mentioned in the post plus you’re an admin, so… 🤘

From my knowledge, they don’t permit stolen images and fake profiles. Those kinds of things are very hard to police no matter the platform.

The Mods can’t stop who creates a profile or not albeit ‘fake profiles’. That’s your answer for that. Inactive profiles are automatically deleted from what I know, so those ‘fake profiles’ which eventually become inactive, get purged once in a while.

Following from my last point, the Mods can’t control what users decide to put on their profiles, as you’ve said “Only UK, No Indians No white guys, etc” and yes I do agree with you that it can be interpreted as racism, you do need to be aware of the society we live in. Unfortunately people have these type of preferences, albeit deep rooted in racism or whatnot, and deciding whether a user is racist or not, is not down to what they’ve decided to write in their profiles, rather if they have spread hate speech and insulted people due to their race.

In regards to your profile pic, each Mod is different, each person is different. What you might not consider to be a caricature might be interpreted as such by another person. The best thing for you to do, is to stay clear of any profile pics that might be interpreted wrongly.

I will preface this by saying, I am not a staff member, so some of the things I typed out might be wrong and if they are, I apologise.
I am just a human, advising a fellow human.

Even among VIP users (especially female ones), it's not uncommon to come across those who use someone else’s photos and pass them off as their own. But the moment you ask them to verify their identity — you get banned. Why don’t moderators conduct at least occasional random checks on profiles with facial photos? The answer is simple: they’re afraid of losing profit. If users knew they could be exposed, far fewer would be willing to pay for VIP. I’ve personally encountered VIP girls, as well as users with accounts several years old, who use photos of other people. Among male users, these cases are extremely rare, but among female and trans female users — it’s surprisingly common.

And I haven’t even touched on a more serious issue — the chat is regularly flooded with ads promoting child pornography, explicit content sales, and virtual sex offers through social media, which are mostly just scams. This happens constantly, and yet moderation often fails to even notice such messages. So why are they even here?

As for my case — my image was posted in my profile, not the main chat, and did not violate any of the site’s rules. It simply featured two presidents standing side by side, with nothing offensive or provocative about it. Moreover, the photo stayed up for two weeks, and I even showed a moderator my past conversation with another moderator who explicitly confirmed there was no rule violation. But everything changed the moment one particularly sensitive user — most likely a political opponent of one (or both) of the presidents — decided to file a complaint.

So, if a single report from an offended user can get someone blocked despite full compliance with the rules, maybe it’s time for the moderation team to either clearly define and expand the rules — or stop acting on personal bias?

Whilst i understand what you’re saying. You’re asking for perfection.

The Mods on here, aren’t paid, they are simply volunteers. So for you to think that they are allowing ‘fake profiles’ just because “they’re afraid of losing profit” — your words, not mine — is simply ridiculous. I doubt they sit at their devices thinking of ways to make Chat Avenue gain more money.

I think you’re missing the whole point of this website. It is a chat room, people from all around the world come on here to chat — or in other cases advertise porn [which isn’t allowed anyways] — If we are going to get all financial, there is a fat chance that this site is gonna impose identity verification. Asides from VIP sales, Chat Avenue get revenue from advertisers, they vastly increase the people who see said ads by allowing free range, and by adding verification, it would reduce the amount of traffic of their website.

You can go ahead and ask people to verify their identity, but then again I can see how you might be banned for this. Regardless of what chat room you were in, Chat Avenue do have some duty of safeguarding and if you wish to continue something outside of the site, it is better you and the person move outside. [And all seriousness aside, exactly how many times has thing happened to you? One would think that after the first or second time, you’d have stopped by now!]

As well as this, I think you need to be quite frank and honest. We are on an online platform, things aren’t going to be picture perfect, neither should you expect them to be. Instead of berating moderators, who are simply volunteers with their own day to day life, you should perhaps come to the reality of what the internet is.

And as for your profile picture. I can see why that was removed, there is extreme conflict going on regarding Russia. There are conflicts with US and the whole damn world. Whilst I do not know your political views — neither do they really matter all that much to me — next time, think about context, and ask yourself whether it is appropriate.

There is absolutely nothing rule-breaking in my profile picture. It does not promote any ideology, it doesn’t incite violence, and it doesn’t insult anyone. If someone finds it personally offensive, that’s simply their own emotional reaction, not an actual violation. The platform even offers an easy solution — just close the user’s profile window, and you won’t see their photo unless you choose to open it again. Problem solved in two clicks.

If moderation is taking action based purely on someone’s personal discomfort, then I officially request a review of the moderator account named "Archangel." His nickname and profile image are directly tied to religious symbolism, which, in the context of an adult chat, can easily be seen as offensive to people of faith. So — are we enforcing rules consistently, or just selectively?

As for the moderators — if you’re not getting paid, that’s not our concern, it’s a responsibility of the site’s owner. If you’ve chosen to volunteer, then act professionally, not half-heartedly.

And finally, to the site owner: if you used a bit more creativity, you could’ve monetized the platform far more effectively — for example, through regular ad placements in chat, or by implementing a system like in games: watch an ad, earn credits. But apparently, the only coding skill you have is the ability to take away fun features from regular users — like colored nicknames and profile effects — and sell them for cash. All for profit, but at the cost of actual improvement.

Your profile picture which has the words “Make America Great Again” does not promote an ideology?

Cut the cameras y’all — Am I being pranked?

Moving on from your whole profile pic debacle, I’m not going to comment on Archangel’s name, mainly because that was not the main focus of your complaint. You’re just finding things to complain about for no good reason. You were banned for your profile picture then managed to drag a moderator’s username into the whole debacle.

If you’re so concerned with moderation — that I think works [not perfectly] but the Admins and Mods that i’ve had experience with, were willing to listen to any of my concerns beacuse they were valuable, made sense and did not attack them — I think you would find more joy in perhaps giving up your time to be a moderator? Let me know what you think about that proposition.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, this isn’t your site! If you have so many problems with Chat Avenue, I suggest you create your own!

Saying this is kindly as possible but some of what you you said isn’t correct and you shouldn’t be providing “answers” to people trying to resolve an issue with the staff. Since this isn’t a kick/ban appeal, you of course can chime in with your opinion on the situation. And thank you for clarifying in your first post that you are not a staff member.

Hello, you did a pretty good job of outlining your concerns and stating your case without being rude or argumentative. You should get good responses if you continue with that attitude.
Please be patient until a Mobile room admin can address your concerns.

Noted! I apologise for overstepping [I got carried away]

The picture in question is against site rules. and as such you were told at the time that it is political and not allowed. This has been supported by another mobile admin, and for your information I am also a mobile admin, not a moderator.

You can argue pink is green on this issue, but the fact remains it is of 2 political figures whether posted in main or on your background pfp.

Both mobile admins have ruled in this case that it is "not" allowed and as such it will not be discussed further.

Maybe in the room you attend, every second profile on this site has a fake profile picture this includes males who put up pictures of buff tattooed men or clean shaven handsome men or clearly photoshopped pictures of others - this is a regular occurrence on both sides of the coin. Nothing will change this site or fix any ongoing issues, its a business not a place for someone to pitch a tent and make it home. It's an internet site for money making purposes if you want real women or people who enjoy your tasteless profile pictures I would suggest venture into the real world might solve your problem.
